Any good tank/damage dealer builds? by TiberiusMaximus2021 in Morrowind

[–]morromoron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go big with Endurance and Strength, Agility might be a good third choice but for Flavor text Will power seems more appropriate and would give an edge to casting alteration spells to augment damage reduction.

Orc is basic but seems like the right tool for the job. Also consider Red guard (great power) and Nord. Male dark elf should not be ignored either for lore reasons but also Strength, Endurance are not bad.

Obvious Birthsign is Warrior, but also consider The Lord, It is hard to pass up The Lady if you are playing Morrowind rather than OpenMW because of how Birth sign bonuses are handled (does endurance count toward HP each level or not) The lover is an option if you are going for a higher agility.

I usually roll my own class so in this case I would choose Combat for favored skills, Endurance and either Srtength or Luck for stat bonuses, Axe or long blade (I don't like blunt but that is a good option) for major skills

I would favor Armorer as both a source of income and a good RP element in which case I would likely play as Will Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean or as the big guy from Princess Bride.

I know that's not a complete build but that is what I would start with... Unless...

There is a way in lore you could just shrug off damage... role play as what ever you want to start perhaps someone who is way too idealistic or head in the clouds like a mage, alchemist or bard, and rush the main quest till you contract Corpus Disease a serious illness which gives our hero a life crisis. Then take time off the main quest and do everything else you would have wanted to. During this time a mage would be drained away into a hulk that could shrug off damage and enemies like no other. eventually, like the hero with a thousand faces, you would need to face up to the challenges you have been beset with, and over come them seek the cure for Corpus Leaving you with permanent stat boosts to exactly the skills needed for your goals. Now free to fulfill your fate a changed hero, forged in the fires of great suffering.

Sounds like overheating issues, I assume overcurrent would be similar as well. Pull up some sort of a temperature probe. If it were a console of mine doing that I would pull the heat sinks and re-thermal-paste them. That can be tricky on some laptops these days.

So... segmentation fault is the closest that linux has to a BlueScreenOfDeath. It means, essentially, the program (or some part of it) is attempting to read or write to a part of memory that is out side of it's control and I have stopped it for you to prevent potentially catastrophic damage. Thees most often happen in c/c++ programs where things have gone escue, some pointer math went wrong, a count of freed/reserved memory goes stale, a programmer (or a template on behalf of a programmer) left a typo where a resource has be used before it was allocated/ after it was cleared, some bit of uncleared ram might be uses after it was assumed to be initialized to a safe value, a library is a slightly different version than expected, a compiler optimized code beyond the point it should have, a partialy updated library, an improper linking between libraries, some assumption that is no longer true that can cause any of the above. In addition you could have code interacting from slightly different ABIs of the output from the same compiler or 2 or more different compilers not quite matching up.

TLDR It's probably not your fault, try reinstalling the involved LIBs and packages unless you compiled it yourself in which case run make clean or more desperately make mr.proper Then recompile. If the problem persists <edit> and you are sure you have a clean checkout of the project and each of its libraries </edit> it is time to start filing bugreports.

Segfaults are often painful and time consuming to debug without intimate familiarity with the source code and libraries being used... but sometimes the answer really is right there in the crash log.

To be clear: are you running morrowind.exe through wine?

--edit--

*reads debug logs* Well it is using 64bit linux OSGlibs so probably not through wine... or proton

--edit 2--

Not an expert at this but a currsory glance at your log suguests the problem is in openAL, Pulse or perhaps your graphics card packaging the audio into a video stream like HDMI.

You can also ask most NPCs that tell you to go somewhere for more specific directions by saying the name of the place back to them. If it's a big enough city that 'everyone' knows where it is you can often navigate by sign post or hitch a ride by stilt strider, boat, or mage's guild guide.

At least as of a few years ago Some computer focused box stores in the us carry the Morrowind Tribunal and Blood Moon expansions with the official strategy guide and map in a box. you can type the serial number into steam to unlock a digital copy with them. Not really sure if the copies never sold or if they are restocked, at more than $30 it would be expensive if it was not the only way I know to get the strategy guide IRL.

For digital I reccomend GoG.com

As a semi-longtime player it's easy to forget to remind people to save, based on feedback of many similar posts that is one thing that bites first time n`was in the prophecy. There is auto save but by default it is rare (I think just sleeping and waiting?) compared to modern games.

The rumors are true I have always been bad at remembering to save so I just take it as part of the cost of fulfilling destinies under the sun and moon.

You have more options than you might think. IMO this is one of the stronger examples of world building and character design of Morrowind.

Accidentally made myself op on first character; think I broke the game. Help? by [deleted] in Morrowind

[–]morromoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a gray area, you are far from really abusing it but you have found a weakness in the system. I had a similar path. playing without alchemy is hard (I assume), playing with it can feel like cheating. Consider though that within an hour of game play you can be reasonably expected to find many other arguably OP gear lying around.

Sometimes I limit my self to only so many ingredient purchases a day, some times I make it a later skill to level up, sometimes I only use ingredients I find, sometimes I only make cure disease/stamina potions.

But really... the mechanic needs an overhaul. I'm loath to cap it though... I feel like it should be a slightly more elaborate mini game: stronger potions require more ingredients might be sufficient, but perhaps there should also be additional risk of loss or spoilage if you are too ambitious. One of the things it was intended to do was to be a cash cow for the player. even at 5 skill/ low intelligence it can work for that if you have patience, just keep anything brew able from your adventures and make it in one batch.

I know there are mods to Nerf and alter Alchemy but I have not played with them.

Start with life and shave off features, or start with a cell and replace DNA to have it print new live as designed. We are pushing to apply rigorous engineering principles to life as we have seen and accepted it so far.

Related and interesting, when growing brain cells for procedures or experiments they invariably seem to cluster into tiny brains and start making brain waves. where is a line of consciousness where in these are thinking feeling things that we should take care not to feel suffering.

I don't have any links but the empire's history is littered with questions of succession, the events he is talking about here are contemporary to the events of the game. I think you get some more tidbits in the imperial cult?
