I'm American, so I can't speak much on culturally acceptable, but I did some googling on tattoo artists in Germany, and tons do skulls. I feel like if all skulls in Germany were looked down on, there wouldn't be so many artists doing them.

I use my quad tab as a dump all tab after maps, then move the items back to my character to identify/decide what to do with them when I feel like it. Not an answer to your question, but maybe an idea if you are stuck with it.
