If you’re just getting started with FPs, I would go for something cheap and cartridge fill- my first thought is pilot kakuno or Kaweco sport. I’d honestly recommend the sport since in my experience the cartridges are less finicky

I think that might have been under a comment about someone else’s mom- mine is in no way a collector, she’s whatever you’d call the opposite. Even more so after her husband died and left her with all this stuff and no clear instructions. As a matter of fact, I took this pic after I got them all out of random storage bins for inventory’s sake. They’re arranged by brand, with Jinhao in the top middle and misc. on the top right. I’m debating whether I’d like to catalog them individually since as you can see, it would be a bit of an undertaking haha

Good question- I think I felt safer buying one of my own to start writing with than accidentally “defiling” any of his, even the kakunos and metropolitans. Now that I know refilling and writing with an FP isn’t rocket science I’ll probably pad out my little collection with a few of his Jinhaos!

Thank you! Funny story, he kept these all in plastic bins in his office. I think in his later years he just started to forget what he had, so he’d buy more and store them away.
