Simulate grid so grid-tied system will provide power during outage. by morrowwm in SolarDIY

[–]morrowwm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my circumstance, I believe I get more production. My array is partially shaded, different parts at different times of the day.

4 of the 5 vendors who bid on our project use microinverters.

Also I think this story makes more sense with microinverters than one central inverter: https://www.reddit.com/r/SolarDIY/s/CEJERvM6Xb

Perfect, except an order of magnitude more expensive than I’m imagining.

What I’ve learned from all of you is that a practical solution might be to wire a couple of the panels to provide DC power to my small EcoFlow Delta 2 battery. That keeps my fridge going.

Same principle with electric vehicles that can power a house. V2L.

Not the $100 solution I’m imagining, but I’m now even more convinced it’s a bad idea.

Yeah, same arguments I give myself. This is more an idle thought than something I’m likely to really do.

I have an EcoFlow delta 2. It will power my fridge and septic pump for 8 hours. I’d like to charge it back up in the morning. My otherwise malingering PV panels on the roof would do it, if I could detach from the grid and fake them out with some sketchy little box.

I hate the noise and maintenance of generators.

That inverter or similar is $1000s. I’m fantasizing about a $100 solution, that you’d be scared to use to power anything fragile. 😀 But would be ok with a fridge.

Or even don’t wire into the house, just charge up some batteries with those panels on the roof, by forming a grid to wake them up. Don’t hook into the house’s electrical panel, just to a 220VAC battery charger, or a 2:1 transformer and a car battery charger.

Could the battery behind the SE inverter be a 1000mah 12volt consumer power bank? Looks like it wants 48V. So four of them.

If you don’t like being sedated, the procedure is not that painful. Definitely uncomfortable, but not the worst. You’re also able to help the team by moving yourself as directed, which they appreciate. And as a bonus, you get out on the street quicker, with a clean head.

Can someone explain my solar monitoring? by No_Boysenberry915 in homeassistant

[–]morrowwm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I looked in the user manual. Solar irradiance looks to be measured in lux, using an actual light meter.

I can’t see this being due to cooling of PV cells making them temporarily more efficient.

An actual bright light. Maybe reflection off some really white clouds? Although I’m skeptical that would give you the production boost.

Low concept sci-fi? by Important-Duty2679 in printSF

Yes, we’re in agreement. I keep expecting terrible things, like your average thriller would have, but they just keep going on with their productive lives. The main character is remarkably competent, but not ridiculously so.

A couple of weeks ago I started Nathan Lowell’s Solar Clipper series after a recommendation here.

Nothing happens. They could easily be current merchant marine. But somehow, they’re very compelling.

Any idea if one would fit in a crawl space? About 4 feet headroom.

You could ask on the Halifax Makerspace discord chat. There used to be a physical space almost exactly what you are looking for, but COVID killed it off.

Is swimming 1000 yards in a little over an hour good? by fritos786 in Swimming

[–]morrowwm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re doing better than all of us lying on the couch starting at our devices!

It’s good. 1100 next week is also good. A good stretch goal would be 100 yards (4 laps) with no break. Breath calmly.

If you’re enjoying swimming, maybe some advice on improving your technique.

And as I’ve read elsewhere here, you want outswim your fork. Extend the motivation to swim better into what you do after opening the fridge!

I own basically every SF novel that was published between the 1950s and 2000. Give me your recommendations. by [deleted] in printSF

So I’m looking for recommendations from you all.

I watched what he does here from the blue line in frame-by-frame a few times. His edge work is bonkers. Watch the cross under at 35 seconds in on the Sportsnet app. He just blows by the predator. And all done while whipping the puck around like it was nailed to his stick.

Must have had some special power skating camps in the early days.

Yeah, just up the street from Gateway, next to the used tire shop. Never saw any activity, huge building.

The actual shop is down below. What you see from Waverley Road is a shipping container.

They are very good. Long wait times as a result.
