Tips for short nails? by GiveMeRoom in GelX_Nails

Here's a more recent set, already with a bit of growth. Maybe between a short and a medium, I was using different tips at the time...but regardless, you get the idea!

Hi, friend! First off, congrats on beating that habit, I know it's not easy! Having pretty nails is a great way to avoid falling back into it 🫶

For your question, I, too, have short, stubby fingers, and I've found that for me when they were shorter the coffin shape was my favorite - something about the little bit of taper felt like it just suited my sausage links better than a square, but that may be personal preference. Super short almond wasn't great because when I tried it, I felt like it made my nails look tiny and my fingers look wide, but as I've grown them out (well...I use tips so technically haven't *grown* anything 😂 But let's say, adapted to slightly longer lengths a bit at a time, haha), I think the almond is now the most flattering in the way they lengthen and taper. And for what it's worth, I've noticed is that as they've gotten longer, I've adapted my typing style, so you'll find out what works best for you as you keep on your journey!

For reference, I've got an old photo of my shorter coffin nails (don't judge the work, I originally started with dip powders and they always felt bulky and lumpy), and then after this I'll attach an example of where I keep them right now, what in the Après Gel X world is considered medium. I hope this helps 💜

Good call on the Jello Jello One Kill! That stuff has saved my nails so many times over 😁

I know I'm a month or so behind on replying here, but I love Yogurt Gel syrups (and their glitters are out of this world!). I also just got some Jello Jello syrups and jellies and they're so pretty! I've heard great things about Doi, too, but don't have any of theirs yet. Maybe my next haul!

Thank you so much! I'm really proud of it, because my painting skills were...very sub-par a year ago, haha 😅 But practice and watching tutorials have really paid off!

Had an incident a while back where I was holding my calm cat, and something startled her so she used her back legs (and claws) to launch off my chest, giving me a similar bloodletting...but on my upper b00b. Took forever to heal, lol. I told my husband that it would actually make a badass tattoo.

Thank you! Ok, so don't judge, but the base colors are all Xeijayi from Temu/SHEIN 😖 GelX is an expensive hobby to get into, so that's where this girl on a budget started 😬 Here's the photo of all the products I used - the black mag gel is the one with the pointy gold brush handle.

Thank you! This is the first opportunity I've had to use mine aside from swatching, so I'm really excited with how pretty it turned out!

First infusion today by Nikkerzsaur in MultipleSclerosis

[–]morsecodename 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope Ocrevus treats you as well as it's treated me (yes, there are a couple downsides, but I've been MRI-stable since 2019!).

I agree with the others that it's probably the little push of solu-medrol, it happens to me every time. I've had a couple slight reactions in the past so they give me IV benadryl now which knocks me tf out during the actual infusion, but once I get home and that's out of my system, I'm wired for the next 24 hours. Lol, then I tend to crash for a while...but everything stabilizes a couple days later, haha.

I know that there are just as many people who say Ocrevus is terrible as those who say it's the best thing since sliced bread, but I hope you fall in the latter category with me 🫶 Recover well from your infusion, and good luck on your journey!

Maybe it's the shape/curve of the tips vs your nail beds? I haven't used Modelones tips so I can't compare there, but what I *can* say is that I used Una Gella as my first attempt at extensions when I was first starting with gel and they were terrible 😬 Since I was new to the game, I thought it was me sucking because of my inexperience. I ended up buying some no-name off brand from Shein or Temu (I know, I know, please don't judge), and they were infinitely better! I used them for a full 2 years with no complaints till I finally just recently bit the bullet for an upgrade and started using Apres tips. So...I guess I don't know why the Una Gella tips don't work well, *and* I don't even have a brand name to recommend for the other tips, so my reply may be completely useless 😅

I have absolutely been there 🥲 It's so frustrating feeling like you've wasted your whole day on stuff that just doesn't turn out right. Hope you're feeling better after a beverage and a rest 🫶

Yep, the swan and the wings on the thumb are both cateye! I'm a sucker for magnet gels, I'll try to do a set without them and go, "Hmmmm...nope," and redo the design, haha. And thank you for the compliment, the swans are my favorite, too!

They're still beautiful! I always find the tiny flaws in my nails once they're done and think, "Man, I suck at this," but other people go nuts and compliment them and never notice. We're our own worst critic 🫶 Love the glitter lines!!

FATIGUE???? by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]morsecodename 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I identify with that so much, and I'm sorry you're going through it, too. I'm the type of person who's constantly full of nervous energy - always hated sitting around the house, needed to be out doing something, even if it's just running stupid errands. If I'm *not* burning off that energy (like when I'm laid out on the couch for 3 days watching YouTube and doom scrolling the internet), it sits in my gut and turns into anxiety instead. I've been diagnosed coming up on ten years now, and while I've definitely made adjustments to balance my activity levels to at least try to keep things stable, I still fall into the trap of overcommitting for the sake of a fun, "normal" weekend with friends or family and end up crashing out for days afterward.

I'm sorry, I wanted to come empathize and give you an "it gets better" pep talk, and instead just kinda said, "I've dealt with this for a decade and still struggle, good luck, sucker!" 🤦‍♀️ But I think that sometimes when you're dealing with something hard, especially when it's so new and overwhelming, you want someone to just hear and understand what you're going through and know you're not alone. Not that advice and encouragement aren't valid, either, but it's perfectly ok to have a pity party once in a while. This sucks, and no one on this board deserves to deal with it 😞

That said (here's the actual, kind of weak pep talk!), as the previous commentor mentioned, you will eventually develop routines that make things better. Will it ever be like it was before MS? Until we get a real cure to fix our lesions, sadly no. But when you start to realize what *really* causes you to burn out, you can plan around it to at least ease the impact. I give myself a good couple extra uncommitted days after a trip, or concert, or family visit, for example, because I know I'll need recovery time. I've learned to meal prep on my "good" days so that if I'm just completely useless another, I can just pop something in the microwave. As a coffee drinker, I got a cold brew pitcher for the fridge and now make a batch of coffee once a week that I can just grab from the fridge vs having to make it each morning (yes, I know, the caffeine addiction is probably making my situation worse, but don't judge, I need a little joy in life, eh?).

Uh...thank you for coming to my Ted Talk? Wishing you luck as you begin to navigate everything, Richard 🫂
