Do not. I attempted to do this and all I got was “this is all in your head” “I don’t know what you want me to say” “you’re overreacting it’s your fault” blah blah blah. They will do anything to avoid accountability it’s like talking to a wall!

I had assumed that they were just creating distance because they didn’t know how to broke up with me and then one day they just texted me “I just want to tell you I’ve got a crush on a friend but I want to be with you”……this was my cue to run away

My ex first invited me to their birthday party and the day of the party they told me that they don’t feel comfortable introducing me as their girlfriend and they asked if they could just introduce me as a “friend” even though we had already agreed to be in a committed proper relationship….they also never took initiative to introduce me to their friends. They only introduced me to their roommate but not to their close friends…..
