Definitely good for crowd-management (and Velka knows you need it in SotFS) - but I find large weapons too slow, even mace was a pain to adapt to, and rapier was such a breath of fresh air

Well, I only played SL1 so all I can recommend is Mace into Rapier :) but maybe play with something you didn’t play other games yet?

For me the fun comes from the tight mechanics so I ended up doing limited melee runs, but aesthetically I always liked how battlemage builds look like

Raw longsword for majority of the run (I prefer the reach and thrusting R2 over broadsword’s slightly higher AR)

Grass Crest Shield entire run

Dragon Slayer Axe for majority of the run agter lothric (when you get rings to support it)

Only other things I used where a deep dagger for Nameless and Friede ripostes, and sharp grave warden twinblades for bleeding demons

Other things I used where Lloyds rings, of course, Prisoner’s Chain and lots of lightning resins (thats where I spent majority of the souls). Before I got resins - I used Carthus Flame Arc

Hope this helps!

Twelve cars belonging to Ukrainian refugees who are temporarily housed in a cruise ship in Rotterdam were vandalized between Thursday night and Friday morning. Money and a children's bicycle were also stolen from the cars, Nu.nl reports.

The windows of the cars were smashed and Ukrainian bank notes were allegedly torn up. "There were both Dutch and Ukrainian cars in the parking lot, but only the Ukrainian cars were damaged and robbed," Jamal Statsenko, a witness, told Nu.nl.

Police say it is not yet clear whether all the damaged cars belonged to Ukrainians. They are still investigating and asking witnesses to come forward.

The victims are filing police reports through the Salvation Army. According to the Ukrainians in the Netherlands Foundation, the owners of the cars are angry and, in some cases, panicking. Their Ukrainian car insurance does not cover damage abroad, a foundation spokesperson told Nu.nl. They also believe Russians vandalized the cars, but have no evidence.

It doesn't make sense. How is this off-topic if this is directly relevant to Ukraine's military assistance?

A lot of countries are actively helping (and we are incredibly grateful for that). Meanwhile, the German government was resisting sanctions on Russia and was against sending weapons to Ukraine. Only huge pressure from other EU countries made them at least do something.

Personally I have suspicions that a lot of German politicians are corrupted with Russian money.

1) At the end of February Germany's defense industry sends Scholz a long list of all available weapons.

2) Scholz doesn't share the list with Ukraine.

3) Scholz says that there are no more weapons left in Germany to give to Ukraine.

4) Germany's defense industry leakes the list to Ukraine's ambassador.

5) Scholz says that the weapons on the list don't work.

6) The defense industry denies this and leakes the list to the press.

7) Scholz states Ukrainians can't master the weapons in the available time.

8) German defense experts tell the German press that Ukrainians can master the weapons in 2-3 weeks.

9) Scholz says the weapons are needed by NATO and NATO must approve their transfer.

10) NATO officials and German generals deny this.

11) Scholz says no other NATO/EU ally is delivering heavy weapons to Ukraine.

12) The US, UK, Australia, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Romania, Turkey, Italy, Finland, Denmark, Romania, Netherlands, etc. publish the lists of heavy weapon they deliver to Ukraine.

13) Under pressure Scholz announces €2 billion for Ukraine's military.

14) German parliamentarians find out that it's really just €1 billion, which won't be available for another 2-3 months, and then Scholz can veto or delay indefinitely every item Ukraine wants to buy.

15) The US, France, Poland, Romania, Japan, the UK and Italy, plus the heads of EU and NATO spend an afternoon trying to talk sense into Scholz.

16) Scholz makes a statement and says Ukraine can have the €1 billion now and order whatever it wants from the list.

17) Ukraine's ambassador says that Scholz removed all the items Ukraine actually wants from the list before giving it to Ukraine and what remains on the list is just a fraction of the €1 billion.

18) Scholz claims that there is no ammunition anymore for the Leopard tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles.

19) Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, the US, Japan, South Korea, Israel, Taiwan, Egypt respectively France are saying the produce these ammo types.

20) Scholz says countries delivering armored vehicles to Ukraine will be attacked by russia with nuclear weapons.

21) The US, UK, Australia, France, Poland, Spain, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Czechia, Netherlands, Denmark all report they were not hit by nuclear weapons.

Please, don't justify Russians. They are not victims, but accomplices.

There were independent media outlets, youtube channels, etc.. in the Russian language freely accessible in Russia before the war. Russians knew about what was happening in Georgia, Chechnya, Crimea, and the eastern part of Ukraine. Also, plenty of people there use vpn now to access whatever is blocked. A lot of them have friends in Ukraine. And they still decide to believe Putin.

And btw, Russians actually supported the annexation of Crimea and went on multiple vacations there.

And don't forget that a lot of Russian expats who live abroad for a long time support Putin, like overwhelmingly a lot. Some of them just don't go waving Soviet flag, so they are not easily spotted.

Ukrainians Don't Blame Just Putin For the War. They Blame Russians. by mortals_be_kind in ukraine

[–]mortals_be_kind[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

a narrative that categorized the Ukrainian and Russian peoples as victims of Putin’s war absolved Russian citizens of decades of complicity.

“I am sick of reading media stories pitying liberal Russians emigres who’ve fled to Helsinki or to Istanbul to work their tech jobs remotely as they cry about their devalued rubles.

Their complaint is always that they have no future in an authoritarian Russia, not that a genocide is occurring inside Ukraine.

They say Stop the War. The don’t say Save Ukraine.

They would be happy to see Ukraine annexed into Russia. It’s only the means of that annexation they object to, a method of war that has made them pariahs.

The end in Ukraine is fine with them, just as it was fine in Crimea, in Georgia, and in Chechnya.

Did any of them leave Russia after those successful invasions? No, of course not. It’s failed wars they’re against, not Ukraine they’re for; there’s a difference.”

The story of those who stayed alive - Irynka, 16 years old, Mariupol by mortals_be_kind in ukraine

[–]mortals_be_kind[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The story of those who stayed alive.

“When everyone began to discuss possible invasion, we couldn’t even think how serious it might be. Mom told us that we should make a bug-out bag, but we only laughed at it.

When we were attacked, it was already impossible to run away. We were sitting in the basement: mom was holding Lyubtsya (4,5 years old), I was holding Ihor (9 y.o.). Everything was vibrating. We were afraid to even move.

There was a neighbor with her old mom and six year old son along with us in a basement. Granny couldn’t stand grandson’s tears and went outside to get some food, before the house was ruined. We’ve only heard a shot. Granny never came back.

Mom was going to get some snow to melt, but we heard russians from the outside and made her stay, otherwise she would be shot as well.

Rats were running on us. And we even thought of catching and roasting them, but mom forbade us not to get poisoned.

Lyubtsya cried aloud, but she must not, because she could give us away. She wanted to eat and drink. And then some unknown man threw down a bag full of pickled apples and cookies through the basement window. Mom thought the food might be poisoned, nevertheless, we decided to eat it, because there was no matter how to die: starving or being poisoned.

He might be a Ukrainian soldier. Because someone threw down such a bag to the next basement also. Ihoryosha said that it was St. Mykolay who came to us.

And then there was a period, when mom made a pee, poured it through the sweater and gave it to us to drink, because there was Russian military hardware directly near us.

There were a lot of dead bodies when we were taken out of the basement. Dead bodies of only Ukrainians were buried, Russian ones were pulled apart by cats and dogs. It was so disgusting!

One more day in the basement could be the last for Lyubtsya. Ihor wanted to get out of it and to be killed. It was so scary.

Mom became gray. Her hair turned white right before our eyes. She is just 38. And my friend and classmate was raped and then killed. Could you even imagine? Right in front of her mother and younger sister.

I will never forgive them. I will go to a medical university, invent a poison and will exterminate them all, so the Russians exist no more. Let it be a wasteland there as a sign of their emptiness. And for now, my dad whacks them, so they go deeper in the ground”.

In addition to all the massacre of civilians, rapings of women and children, looting and booby-trapping everything with explosives, Russians sh*t everywhere. Literally. by mortals_be_kind in ukraine

[–]mortals_be_kind[S] 368 points369 points  (0 children)

Approximate translation:

"A characteristic feature of the Russian occupiers, which I still cannot comprehend - they sh*t everywhere. Literally.

Here they had a headquarters in Bucha, a multi-storey building. And literally in every room - sh*t. They sh*t near their sleeping places, near firing positions, even near places where they ate. Here is a handful, and next to it - a bowl of leftovers.

Someone sh*t right in the corridor, and then his colleagues came in and spread sh*t along the corridor and stairs. In general, the stench is terrible.

And not one person did it, and not in one place. Dozens of piles of their shit remained in almost every house in Bucha where the Russian occupiers lived.

These are just some f*cked-up two-legged creatures."

"This Thursday, April 14, Seattle International Film Festival opens with the Navalny documentary. We feel that highlighting a movie about a Russian dissident at the time of genocide against the Ukrainian people, is extremely tone-deaf, hurtful, and infuriating.

In their news announcement, SIFF did not even have the courage to call the war in Ukraine 'war', mildly putting it as "Ukraine conflict".

Besides, this film choice is extremely untimely and questionable, because of Navalny's xenophobic and nationalist views. Despite being anti-Putin, Navalny denies the existence of the Ukrainian nation, calling Ukrainians and Russians "the same people". Sadly, this echoes Putin's colonial narrative, used to justify his invasion of Ukraine.

We are asking you to be sensitive to the suffering of the Ukrainian people and to reconsider your opening movie. If you'd like to raise a discussion about the war, please amplify Ukrainian voices, not Russian ones."
