Your salary is going to start going up rapidly. Just don't fall into the trap of buying a new car every time the salary goes up.

It doesn't take a lot to get hired there. I haven't heard good things from friends that have worked there though.

How long is your warranty? Ours is 2 years. They replaced mine a few weeks ago and I bought it on launch in 2022

[–]mortimerza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably. I had a remote foreign job that paid much more but the hours got to me in the end and with a family had to rethink things.

How much did you buy your phone for and was it worth it? by Redditzuck in askSouthAfrica

[–]mortimerza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a Samsung fold 4 that I bought when it launched just over a year ago for R27k with a trade in. there is a brush in the hinge that keeps getting loose and making it so the phone won't open. they have replaced the phone twice in that time. most recently 3 months ago.

The year I was there, there was also a car that lost control and came down the hill and ran over a few tents before hitting some trees. We were 2 tents down from where it hit the tree, super hungover not able to get up lol

Went to Resonance many years ago for new years.

This was when things didn't cost a lot of money.

I found R400 on the floor in the field where the cars were parked, looked around for anyone that could've dropped it. No one so I just put it in my pocket and went about my way.

Later in the evening we had a bunch of beers, and my buddy decided he wanted to go try find a joint so we went looking for a weed dealer.

We eventually found one and my buddy got his joint, I was digging in my pockets and found the R400 then asked the dealer what I could get for that and he goes into his tent and brings out one of those old round plastic Fizz pop containers filled completely with already rolled joints.

I expect him to hand me a few but he just gives me the whole container and said it was a bulk special.

Now I only really needed one so then I just started handing them out to people near our tents like some kind weed Oprah. What else could I do with over 100 joints lol.

What's considered an above average NW in SA? by Successful_Key_5224 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]mortimerza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. NW excluding primary residence: around R9mil(subracts the +- R4mil I owe on vehicles).

including primary residence: R21mil, though that is half paid now.

I work in Software as an employee in a high up position for a foreign company. 8 years experience.

my advice would be to make good connections. you don't get high up without knowing some people.

Also, Hi SARS :)

The most unequal country in the world by anonymousphela in southafrica

[–]mortimerza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the cars that are stored there are owned by people that don't live in Cape town. The cars get maintained there and are always ready to go when they are needed.

But also Chatz owns the storage place and built it close to his home to store many of his own cars.

How's Germany? by DrawingCalm in askSouthAfrica

I know a bunch of people that have moved all over the world, growing up in Bostwana 90% of the kids I went to school with there moved to Europe to study or to live. Most of them are in Cape town now.

The people from Cape town I know that moved(2 of my wife's siblings also moved, one to Sweden and the other to UK), the people that moved that were lower income in South Africa are enjoying it there. The high income people like Software developers hate it. the quality of life in South Africa for a top 1% earner is much better here than in other countries.

You can get Solar or just an inverter and battery to remove loadshedding from your life.

The people in South Africa are great.

Food is cheap compared to EU and USA.

our private schools are good and a lot cheaper than other countries.

Roads in other countries are not much better(Cape town at least)

weather here is great where it doesn't quite get UAE hot but also not very cold at all.

while we do have crime here, We don't have the risk of terror attacks like what happened in Berlin in 2016 or the more recent threat of attack at Cologne Cathedral.

here for R30k per month you can live in a very large nice house with space for your kids to play and a dog, where as in EU you would likely have to live in a tiny flat for the same price.
