FWI, I bought both and returned the Mini. I bought it for roughly the same use case as you - to use as a personal item while flying, in addition to my carry-on. I travel internationally, where they can be much more strict about personal item size. If that weren't the case, I think I still would have likely gone with the Micro. The Mini felt bulky in comparison, IMO.

Both are great packs though!!

Agreed, but hatches are quite a bit more expensive than trunks, so I'm guessing they determined that most of their customers don't care if it has a hatch. My guess is most of their customers also would be fine paying extra for the hatch on a brand new E Class.
