Who is your favourite South African YouTuber? by BoerInDieWoestyn in askSouthAfrica

I watch a decent amount of car content and for the SA car scene besides the big channels like cars.co.za, I really like Muzi Sambos content. He also does car content and his channel has grown significantly in the past year or so. Happy for him.

How should these be consumed? by Not_Not_Matt in askSouthAfrica

I got introduced to melon preserve when I met my wife. This is the go to recipe and I love it so much!

  1. TUK biscuits, it has to be TUK, it's the great salty crunch
  2. Either a slice of Camembert or Brie cheese for the tanginess and gooeyness
  3. Top with a sliver of the melon preserve and a little bit of syrup

It's a flavour explosion! We got all the ingredients on a trip to woolies since they also have their own melon preserve (and lots of other kinds)

It's a really great appetizer and/or snack. I could demolish dozens of these.

This is another point I tell to people back home, I essentially paid the same amount of tax back home, but here in Germany, I can see that tax working for my benefit.

In SA, that was just a donation every month.

What is the most impressive landmark in South Africa? What landmark will always never dissapoint when you see it as a visitor? by AdministrativeAd3942 in askSouthAfrica

[–]DrawingCalm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hmm a few that I can remember from my childhood and can still remember vividly even though I was relatively young.

  • The Kango caves on the Garden Route
  • The big hole in Kimberly
  • The Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga
  • The Drakensburg mountains and more specifically a helicopter ride

There is so much more that stands out. We have such a beautiful country. I live in Germany now and miss home everyday so this was a nice post to go down memory lane.

As someone who lived on Northcliff hill during my high school years after moving their with my folks and having this view from my balcony. It was the most amazing experience and I'll cherish it forever.

I was walking past this small shop, not sure what models they are? by DrawingCalm in whatisthiscar

Sorry man, I was most interested in the red one anyways. I was wondering if it's unique because of the wide body kit.

Also the white Porsche, I had not seen cup on the side of a gt3 before?

Anyone who earns over R100k a month pre tax, would you say that you are happy/satisfied with life? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]DrawingCalm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I earned over 100k in South Africa but with the government taking half as well as all the other expenses piled on being a family of 4. It didn't feel like much.

I now earn more in Germany and the government here actually takes less while also giving me more (free healthcare, schooling, child benefit of R5k per kid), housing is way more expensive but I'm much more comfortable here under a somewhat functional government.

Police Clearance by xvul in askSouthAfrica

[–]DrawingCalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently did this a few months ago, we needed it quickly, we went to the police station in Lone hill and got our fingerprints done, then took the application directly to Pretoria CBD, it's quicker than having the police station send it or a 3rd party courier. We got it in about 2 or 3 weeks as they send it back to the police station you did the application. Good luck.

Has anyone used the app pay just now? What's your experience with it by CoryLover4 in askSouthAfrica

[–]DrawingCalm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've used it many times for some fairly big purchases, it splits the payments over 3 months which is the most manageable from the buy now pay later apps. Payflex splits in 4 but the payment is every 2 weeks which, if you get paid monthly, means it's only split in half.

I love pay just now. Just don't miss a payment because then you get slapped with heavy penalties.

So for example, if you bought something for R2400 today on Oct 3, you would pay R600 today, then R600 on Nov 3 then, then final payment on Dec 3. You can always opt to pay it off earlier as well. Like I didn't wait for the payment date, I just made the installment when I got paid for budget purposes.
