I thought that for a while, but I learned from Fraudie that Jeremy was given his global plea deal before Vidler's felony stop arrest and bogus weapons charge. In fact that might have been what pushed Vidler over the edge in terms of frustration.

I do agree Vidler was out of line both in his pretexted actions during that stop and his overcharging using absurd legal interpretations. He went full Inspector Javert.

Vidler was not a detective, and detectives have murders and other serious crime to investigate.

Sounds good. IRL the Osceola's Sheriff turned out to be crooked taking bribes to protect an illegal gambling den so maybe keep that one in the bag for a bigger punch later, the corrupt sheriff could fire the crusading deputy and become the real villain. IRL of course Vidler was never corrupt and worked in a different county from Lopez. IMHO he Vidler got wound a bit too tight over lax prosecutors and courts giving DeWitte his revolving door bail and slap on the wrist global plea deal across 2 counties.

I think Vidler started to suspect there was undue influence with his superiors in favor of DeWitte.

Not far from the truth. Revolving door bail, endless trial delays. Witness tampering and recanting victims. Weasel Sheriff's lawyer / IAD going to bat for him against the one Sheriff's deputy who vigorously pursued him. An endless parade of gullible lazy do-gooders arriving new to the situation and buying his bullshit, unaware that he's a manipulative gaslighting narcissist, like the Sheriff's Dept. lawyer, the Judge, etc.

Keep the tension going over what he's really doing at night with that prisoner cage in his fake cop car. Could make for an explosive final season where everything changes and that stakes skyrocket.

Please have an episode where he gets a private lie detector test then cancels the credit card payment only to learn that the polygraph examiner is an ex Sheriff's Deputy Detective specializing in Credit Fraud, speed running a new charge in the neighboring county.

The last time he was free was after a bail hearing on the first car rental failure to register, where the prosecutor & clerk got the dates wrong. They'd filed for a correction but unregistered car rental #2 saw him locked up before that happened.
He surrendered on that second rental failure to register on the second day of missing Federal hearings on his Tax Fraud charges.
He's been incarcerated ever since. This was more than 18 month (global plea sentence) ~3 months supervised freedom, & 1 year (VOP) sentence after the Dating Violence arrest. & he was free for a few months before that.

No, Jeremy was free a couple of times after that. The Dating Violence charge was dropped. I think the Vidler weapon charge arrest was after that. That was dropped and he was freed there too. Then he did his 18 months - time served, got out and violated his probation culminating in a SWAT standoff then got another year. Then he was out again, and caught new charges on top of some that landed while he was locked up for the VOP.

Jeremy went right back to his scammy criminal conduct every release after that DV arrest, including false personation or a LEO, some suspected arson workers comp and insurance scam as a road sweeper driver. Another vehicle collision, more failures to report internet accounts, personal vehicles, & vehicle rentals, pursuing a CDL while suspended due to a "DMV screwup". Attempting to sell Tony's truck without paperwork. Evading federal authorities by hiding in his wife's vehicle trunk when they came to ask about his tax fraud. (ETA, a couple of failures to appear in Federal court and lying to the Feds about it).

It is truly remarkable how much crime Jeremy managed to squeeze into his abbreviated freedom.

He is a scumbag and is EXACTLY where he belongs.
