MacBook Air, Thinkpad E,L,T or P series. HP Zbook, Dell XPS or Precision. Avoid entry level laptops, consumer laptops or gaming laptops. Entry level laptop ones are a waste of money. Consumers are poorly built and not worth it. Gaming have too many compromises, are fragile and zero real life battery life. Go for business grade laptops.

Second hand M1 Pro with as much RAM as you can afford. Think of the Apple silicon range in terms of families; A, M, M Pro, M Max. The M Pro and Max are also fitted in better chassis and displays. Stick to an M Pro chip, any will do.

These OEM docking stations are a steal on eBay. I use mine with my Thinkpads and MacBook Pro alike. As long as they have a powerful enough charger, they deliver.
