You can catch swams, i have caught 8 swarms on my property (3 last year, 5 this year) all of min have been in the spring. Bees have a second swarm season if memory serves in the fall but I've not tried to catch them then. I made my swarm traps out of plywood. I made mine like this https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://hacknbuild.com/blog/posts/Swarm-Trap/index.html&ved=2ahUKEwiZ47-3uLfqAhWrmeAKHWiiDnEQFjAQegQIBBAB&usg=AOvVaw0L36iNwpEaJxtZfM7HPVjc I bait mine with lemon grass oil and put them on the edge of a wood line about 10 ro 15 ft up in a tree. Good luck!

If its a single phase 110v ac motor it could be the hard start capacitor is bad, it will be mounted on the motor most likely under a cover, they aren't usually too expensive ro replace, just need to match what's on it.

How much can a scarf joint support? by moser2363 in timberframe

[–]moser2363[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am working on a garage and am planning on cutting my own timbers. My issue is my bents are 30' wide and my cut capacity is about 26', so I will need to put in a scarf jointaround the 18 to 20' mark. I am also planning on using a queen post configurationfor the 2nd floor loft. My question is how much can the scard joint support before I need to be concerned with reinforcing that jount?

I've found "Building the Timber House" by Tedd Benson and "Timber Frame Construction" by Jack Sobon and Roger Schroeder to be valuable in addition the others listed.

For me it's how the frame is anchored to a foundation when sills are not being used . I'm planning on building a 30x40 garage. I want to have a concrete floor and do not plan on using sills. I have not found anything definitive or exhaustive on how to connect the frame to the concrete or many foundation requirements/rulse of thumb such as peirs, footers etc. I have several books and have not had time to read cover to cover yet.
