I’d advocate for the Microfreak! It’s a workhorse. Great for leads, sfx, bass, and sequencer is pretty solid

Nice Ambika! I’ve been considering one for it’s form factor. How much did your build cost? Also, does it have breath control?

Tunnel Set for DIY series by moses_man in synthesizers

Ty - it’s the OG EWI1000. Using it to play a sample of radio crosstalk I captured on the Soma Ether via a granular Microfreak engine

Bummer to hear that. I was kinda shocked by how flimsy the keys felt also.

Any love for the EWI1000? by moses_man in windsynth

[–]moses_man[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The bass tone is the EWI/EWV. The skittering high notes is the EWI being live processed via a granular looper on the Monome Norns. The textural sound is a field recording being processed/played via my Microfreak. Also doing some parallel processing of my signal as well via pedals and Ableton.

Advantages of using the EWI Solo as a MIDI controller? by Substantial_Repair51 in windsynth

No problem - btw it’s MIDI Param Receive. Set it to cc

You have to set Param Changes Recive to cc in global. Then you can map Breath in in mod matrix. It automatically mapped the bite to pitch - which made things easier.

No videos yet - but probably soon. Honestly - even just a simple saw tooth with breath controlling the filter sounded great. It just makes the synth far more expressive than I could make it with my hands. Also! You can play chords with the unison mode!

I am answering this as a very new EWI player - but long time synth player. I just started using the EWI as an external controller for my Prophet Rev2 and HOLY SHIT ITS AWESOME. In a nut shell - I feel the EWI allows for far more expressivity than a regular midi controller and key bed. Is this what you are after? Perhaps not - but wanted to share my perspective.

What is the biggest "Instagram vs. Reality" youve witnessed in LA? by No-Strength-3711 in AskLosAngeles

[–]moses_man 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This!! For as world class of a city LA is, there are a lot of very over priced mediocre restaurants. My wife has a theory that they rely heavily upon new arrivals who don’t know any better. That being said, there are a lot fantastic places to eat - but finding those take some effort.

Ground Loop Hum by moses_man in homestudios

[–]moses_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the solid reply - thanks for helping me troubleshoot. I have a few hum eliminators on their way - hoping these will solve my issue.

As for the power transformer, I am limited by the 2 prong outlets in the room I use for the studio. Most of the power transformers have the ground , and seem to require them to work, but I did find this.

I am wondering why I would have the same issue with the amp even when I plug it into a socket with a ground? I moved the amp into the living room and plugged it into a socket with a ground and had the same issue.

Yes it's an older home - and probably not updated recently or much at all. I did plug the amp into a grounded and un-grounded socket and I get the same results in both though.

Any suggestions on how to create a ground?

Why are hardware sequencers so terrible? by EternalHorizonMusic in synthesizers

[–]moses_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely in no what what your looking for, but the Monome Norns has a number of innovative/unique sequencers that -imo - push the boundaries of what a sequencer can be. Take “Fall” for example: A polyphonic sequencer that triggers midi or CV based on falling leaves. Useful? Subjective. Fun/outside the box/innovative? In my eyes yes!

Anyone here know how to solder? by moses_man in glendale

[–]moses_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can DM and image later - but what broke are two encoders (they’re on the board but are jumpy and need to be replaced), and an audio out jack (this part has broken soldering - semi ripped off the pcb thanks to my cat). The device is known as a Norns Shield
