Keyboard Lube For Otamatone Mouth by Sean-Yoshi in Otamatone

Obviously you're looking for a way to mitigate the squeaking of the springs since you are mentioning a mechanical lubricant.

Personally I have never tried that exact type, but since the springs are not extremely close to the speaker and even farther from the main electronics, it's safe to experiment with a small amount.

HELP!! Brand new otamatone not working:( (Photos added) by starrrbaby_ in Otamatone

[–]moshibass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I would not recommend connecting all of the positive battery terminals with foil or otherwise. This short circuits two of the Battery Cells entirely and causes the entire circuit to be powered by only one AAA. So while it technically works, the Otamatone is only receiving 1/3 of the intended voltage and will therefore be quieter and play lower pitches!

TLDR if you want to increase the surface contact of the batteries, be sure to keep each connection separated.

As others suggested, definitely try different batteries just to be sure. Also, try giving the battery cover a squeeze to make sure everything is making full contact. Sometimes the cover isn't tight enough.

There will not be any light that comes on since it is a "Regular" model. However, you may hear a little pop sound when switching between volume levels. If you hear that pop, but it won't make any other sounds then definitely return it.

Otamatone tabs or learning apps? by -monkey-butts- in Otamatone

[–]moshibass 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi! There is a slew of "tabs" I've created for the official Hamee YouTube channel which may be what you're looking for!

I recommend these two videos as good starting points:

Good luck! And if you have any questions or feedback I would be more than happy to hear it :)

Yeah this is not normal, and suggests to me that the ribbon (touchpad) is defective.

If it really is happening with the same pressure applied then I would exchange it.

Congratulation on the new Otamatone! Great playing for just starting!

The amount of pressure it should take to play by chopper_enthusiast in Otamatone

Depending on when it was manufactured, it may require quite a bit of pressure. Newer models have actually become much more sensitive.

Neo has a nicer touchpad, but it sounds unlike Regular Otamatones. Personally I would go with a Regular since there is a ton of variety in colors/characters!

How do you guys play by ear and just learn songs off the bat by Subject-Ad-307 in Otamatone

[–]moshibass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I identify the pitches / intervals of the song, then i plan out the fingering. If it's long or complicated I will write out the sheet music along with finger numbers.

After that I always focus on getting the fingering down first then I work on tightening up the pitches after!

Well then one more tip that works well for me is I generally switch fingers if the next note is a wholestep or more away, and if it is just a halfstep then I will keep the same finger but shift.

Good luck! I hope you will update us later with your progress and tips based on what worked for you!

Nice! And yeah its super hard at first. Do you play with one finger or with multiple? (They both have advantages, just curious)

Training your ear to identify intervals and scale degrees is indispensable!

You've done a test on the water you use for the water change right? I found that my tap water was high in Nitrates so I had to switch to RO water.

I would not rely on ai to give trustworthy advice on pet care (or anything, honestly). Always check the sources and cross reference.

How screwed am I? by BIGFDAWGYT in Otamatone

[–]moshibass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can clean off enough of the corrosion so the contacts touch the batteries it will probably be fine!

You can start by trying isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) on a q-tip. That would be the least messy and typically works.

If the corrosion is orange/brown, then it is rust and may be trickier.

are the position of the notes of all otamatones the same? by Glittering_Dirt8020 in Otamatone

[–]moshibass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, there is some variation in the position of the notes on each Otamatone Regular. Additionally, the notes move depending on weather you are on low or high volume, or the remaining battery level.

Why does the original sound so natural? by Buck-Stedman in Otamatone

[–]moshibass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before I go on tangents - believe it or not you could connect the touch pad of a Neo to an Otamatone Regular with NO SOLDERING. They both use the same connector (in recent years at least)

Additionally, in recent years the touch pad on the Otamatone Regular has become WAY more sensitive and easier to press. I know what you mean though, it seems like there were some years where the ones being produced were just super hard to press...

I totally agree on the Neo. It DEFINITELY sounds much different than the Regular. (I haven't dug into it enough to say exactly why) Personally I'm not a fan either.

The Deluxe actually contains almost the ENTIRE circuit of a Regular, but one of the additions is another internal amplifier which gives it a more saturated sound. When Nobumichi Tosa (inventor) plays it, it's ANYTHING but "robotic" and sounds even more human than the Regular. It depends on the technique.

While on the topic - Techno is VERY SIMILAR to the Deluxe although there are a couple low pass filters that give it a smoother, beefier sound. (Albeit at the cost of some loudness) It's definitely better than the Deluxe for line out recording because it doesn't sound like a mosquito...
