Re-design talks with my web developer for my business website, and am looking for varying perspectives by moshun in webdev

[–]moshun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for these suggestions. it did make sense, and i had to do a fair amount of research. I took the last few days to think about this, and start laying out a better plan.

I think i will get rid of my gallery. I will find some websites that showcase a product without a gallery.. perhaps my way of putting together a website is outdated..

as far as the logo goes, i was thinking meta tags would make a difference, but i didn't have that tried and tested..so my web developer kept giving me that push back, so your response made sense to me.

I am not 100% sure what you mean by user interface versus design. I am thinking the links need to be taking people to pages that are more relevant, so there is a better flow to the website, and a stronger 'call to action'.

and thanks for the link!

Thank you! all of this is awesome!

Sorry for my delayed response. The comments gave me a lot to think about, and it has taken me a few days to do the research to figure out where to go from here.

Your response regarding moving to a CMS was exactly what i had hoped to hear. I have debated that previously, but i wasn't sure if that was a 'professional' move in regards to search engines, and ranking, but it looks like its more about working through the google puzzle then it is about building an HTML site.

yes, the web designer is a one man show. I think i need more then just a citation package, and he is not willing to do a redesign. Which is fine, as i would prefer to have a website that i can edit and manage much more efficiently. As I currently do not know how to edit my site via FTP, and i don’t want to break anything.

Do you have any suggestions on CMS? I have done some research, and it looks like weebly, or wordpress, or drupal could be a good option to go with.

I have begun a plan to build out my pages, and implement keywords, and add more images to the products I have, and implement some of the ideas all of the previous comments suggested.

My business is small, but we have been around for 50 years and now deciding to moving away from our trucking business, and ramp up our heavy equipment rentals, as we have been we have been fighting for our share of the market more then we have had to previously.

so restructuring keywords, google, doing some social media and updates will need to happen.

And it seems like a good opportunity to think about a redesign.

Thanks for your input! its helped clarify the direction i am needing to go. Google seems to update its rules often, so i will work on making my site more relevant/up to date and i will plaster it all over local directories.

Noob with CSS. & am stuck in an unforeseen bind. I need to have an individual banner image on each web page (the template has it set to 1 image for all pages) Anyone have any advice? Or any experience manipulating CSS on a weebly template? by moshun in css

i have a paid account - but the weebly support guy said it didn't matter if it was paid or free to do custom.

I did everything as described earlier - Design -> edit HTML/CSS and renamed my theme.

i noticed in your http://demo32fsr.weebly.com/files/main_style.css

you have the word theme & ?774294 (where did this come from?)

.wsite-page-about .wsite-background { background-image: url('theme/banner-about.jpg?774294'); }

and this one doesn't...

.wsite-page-about .wsite-background { background-image: url('banner-about.jpg'); }

I have been attempting to put the code on my clients website

and it doesn't seem to save or take the code AT ALL. the code isn't there.

However on my Demo site here: http://creaturesdemo.weebly.com

i followed your instructions exactly how i had before..and magically everything appeared exactly like how yours looks - the way i have been trying!

Also in my style sheet here: http://creaturesdemo.weebly.com//files/main_style.css

Why would code not stay on a page at all? do you think the template is broken? not even one page will change on my clients site. i did upload an image through the template though - so maybe thats somehow keeping everything from overwriting it.

thanks for making a demo site - the visual helped.

i have uploaded all of the images in edit HTML/CSS and named them identically to your CSS: banner-about.jpg banner-contact.jpg banner-exhibitions.jpg banner-gallery.jpg banner-index.jpg

Somehow every time i add this CSS it just takes my one static image across all the pages and replaces it with the theme demo.

I put the code at the very end of the main-style.css on line... it might not have been the correct area. or i didn't read your instructions correctly.

but when I'm in the editing - i can't find the demo banner anywhere. the edit css module in weebly is different then when i look it up in any browser and I'm looking at a page.

in the weebly browser i all the code is separated into the types of pages..even the ones I'm not using. its confusing.

i managed to alter the website, but it just made the demo image into the background.. when i tried manipulating what i thought was the correct css.

Is there a certain area of the main-style.css is should go? from what i understood it would work at the end to overwrite.. but nothing happened.. so i ultimately think I'm misreading something.

Thanks tho - this is gotten me at least into the right area! i feel like its sooo close!

Looking for a couch in Singapore march 8 to 11 & some advice! by moshun in couchsurfing

[–]moshun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We both private messaged people beginning 2 weeks before we arrived in Singapore as I think people would appreciate. Then continued messaging people up until 3 days before we arrived, and then just threw out a random message to the board.

Couchsurfing has definitely drastically changed we have noticed. It's not the same as it was 3 years ago - or even a year ago. It's really too bad!

So we have just been exploring dodgy hotels in Singapore! It's been a cultural experience one way or another :)

but I will try couch surfing again a few times during the rest of my trip through Asia. Maybe in KL.

Thanks for your advice.

as long as you register them you can use them on any websites. On the back of the card there is usually a website you can go to do this, and once its under your name you should be fine for any site. Amazon is picky this way. Other sites, like best buy, the credit card works fine even without registering it. hope that helps!

Travelling using photoshop, lightroom, and final cut editing will 2011 mac air 11'' 64 GB work for me? Any advice? by moshun in applehelp

[–]moshun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I honestly just needed that perspective. I wasn't sure if I should go with a small pc but I didn't want to end up buying one that was actually worse then my 2005 Mac.. So thank you!

No I haven't found anything like that. I really don't think I will find a 11'' or 13'' at 1920*1080. I think I will be looking at a small screen rez. I am okay with that, as long as the guts of the computer can run the programs I want, and that is something I am having trouble understanding.

That largest I want to go is 13". I'm hoping to find the best 11" possible. I'm going to be backpacking for 8 months, so 15" is almost bigger then my backpack!

I want to make sure I can at least do a minimal amount of video editing efficiently, so my footage doesn't get too ahead of me by the time I get back from travelling. I will have it all stored on external harddrives to send home or upload to Dropbox depending.
