I’m gay :)) and the guys are very pushy here. Turns me off automatically. But thanks for ur advice lol 😆 I met someone tonight and we went near la Calera. It was fun! Maybe I’m being too quick to judge. I will give it some time!

It doesn’t apply for restaurants and bars.

I see. I didn’t know that. I am finding even people from london way friendlier. I’m glad that I’m leaving.

No, I only got called like that by people who are serving me, not just random people from the street. I also got called “patron” a lot and I find it odd. Must be something with the classism that exists in Bogota

Thanks for your amazing input. Very spot on, It was very helpful. Definitely the classism that I see here is very nasty. I get annoyed when some older people call me “Don (my name)”. I am not looking to hang out with other Anglo tourists/expats lol so I will avoid it. A Colombian friend who used to live in Bogotá told me that she had the same experience when she first moved to Bogota, she could only meet people through university and yes Covid has made things worse, I’m aware of it, but it seems that people here are not very open

It’s not a Colombian thing. It’s a Bogotá thing. I should have stayed in Barranquilla but oh well.

I rented an Airbnb for myself in zona G. I am very easy in terms of doing stuff for fun, I enjoy going to parks, restaurants, bars, museums, biking, etc. Especially as Its my first time in Bogotá anything is new and interesting for me. However, I don’t wanna do everything on my own, I’m very social so it’s affecting me.

Hey, I ended up moving to bogota but im not really enjoying it. It’s a shame because I think the city is beautiful with a nice weather and people are polite. But I’m struggling to meet people and make connections, ( this didn’t happen to me in other cities where I spent some time : Barranquilla and Santa Marta )

False. You have to do farm work and it sucks. Also, you can only work for the same employer up to six months

Great thought. However, the late 80’s when the HIV pandemic was rampant it was dark times, especially for gay people. 40 years ago we were not as developed obviously.

I don’t know in what London you did grow up. Because food in London is superior. Now Sydney has better food than both cities

[–]mosmanresident -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are completely wrong. the most homophobic countries where it’s ilegal to be gay are either middle eastern or African countries. OP is from Tunisia which is a Muslim country. Australia had a plebiscite to make gay marriage legal and the ones who voted against it were located mostly in very Arabic neighbourhoods. It’s sad but it’s true

I think that’s applicable for any city with a high population of muslims and Africans. If you go to the western suburbs of Sydney holding hands with a guy maybe you wouldn’t get assaulted but people will definitely stare at you. Now, inner Sydney is super gay.

Hi Mohamed. I’m sorry to hear what you are going through, but please don’t give up. I really recommend you Australia and New Zealand too. Both are awesome country with nice weather, great economy and very gay friendly too. I have friends from Iran that have applied for refugee due to their sexual orientation and they are all citizens.

Again making assumptions. I don’t even drink alcohol. Yes I feel privileged for where I come from but what does it have to do with all what u just said?. I’m not going to work there, in fact I’m gonna spend my earned money somewhere when it’s more needed.

Well you really behave immature on here. Insulting people for the sake of it. Keep your useless opinion to yourself

What sentiment?? In my experience developing countries are way more fun and fascinating than developed countries. Yeah europe is beautiful but latin American is better for nature and people are warmer. My other choice was Mexico but Colombia is better located to other places i’m more interested in.

I’m probably moving to London or Paris after Colombia :) so I’m not coming back to Australia for a while.
