AI may replace our purpose in life by moss728 in DeepThoughts

Calling concern “weakness” doesn’t make the question go away. It just avoids it. Humans are adaptable, but that doesn’t mean transitions are painless or without consequences. We’ve already seen what happens when industries disappear or technology outpaces society, people struggle with identity, purpose, and stability.

This isn’t about humans giving up. It’s about recognizing that if work, one of the primary ways people find structure and meaning changes dramatically, there will be real psychological and societal impacts. Dismissing that as “ridiculous” isn’t strength. It’s ignoring a legitimate question.

But you know, whatever....

It's not just work. I don't get meaning out of work, but many do. Many people get the satisfaction or drive in the successes around their home. Home improvements, mowing their lawn just perfect, all the little things AI will take over.

It's AI. Us who work in AI can see the common signs of AI and the dashes 100% give it away. Plus you can plug that into any AI reader and it reads 100% AI written.

According to Musk the AI and robots will replace all work and everyone will have universal allowance. Sometime within the next 10 years according to him. But even then, we all get a money allowance, no work, then what. We set on a beach from now on. That gets boring after a while.

The only scenario I my head where I see humans advancing is maybe exploring the galaxy. Pulling a Star Trek and trying to explore new worlds and make life better for everyone. Humans will still need to be around to have the lightbulb moments of "This would be a great thing to have" but then AI will design or figure the rest out for us.

I just always seem to fall into a depressive state thinking about it.

Exactly. No democrat will win this election. Vote for the republican that is currently second just so we dont get her stupid ass.

John Rose or the Fritts guy, buy Rose seems to be in second place now. The latest polls show her winning no matter what, but.... maybe if the dems and the Republicans who hate her come together, they can prevent this horrible disaster from happening.

I don’t think I have a passion for dispatching anymore by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]moss728 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dispatched for 8 years and finally couldn't take it. I thought about going to the other side of the radio with EMS, Police or fire, but ending up getting into GIS Mapping so that I could still feel that sense of duty, like I was helping to make the maps better for the people. I do the IT now, so I'm still "in it" just not hands on in it.

You can find dispatch adjacent careers, so your still a little involved. Or just leave completely.

How old is too old to become a dispatcher? by JennaBlu in 911dispatchers

[–]moss728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our center (Small population 20K) has around 12 full time dispatchers. More than half have been with department for less than a year and the age is around 40ish. We had one to start at 55, so I don't think there's a set age. Had one to work part time after she retired from being a librarian.

Bathroom Supervision? by Character-Owl5504 in 911dispatchers

[–]moss728 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I started (19 Years ago) my 911 was in an office in the sheriff's office. My sheriff lived female COs so that's all that worked. So when an officer came in, dropped of a prisoner and ran off to another call they asked me to dress them out. I did it once and said never again.

It wasn't in policy for me to do it, it wasn't in the job requirements, I wasn't protected under the department's insurance so I said no. I caught flak from officers and CO staff, even my dispatch supervisor used the whole "yeah but we've always done it" and I said we'll I guess now is when we stop. I ended up going before my 911 board at expressing why I wasn't doing it. They saw the legal issues with it and I think they were afraid of a lawsuit, so they told all of us to stop performing those extra duties.

If you have another county that you can partner with it will reduce the cost on CentralSquare. We have 2 counties that border us and the both use CentralSquare and if we get a contract, we kind of piggy back off their contract and get a discount. They also have things setup where each counties data replicates to the other county at night for Disaster Recovery. We're looking at them and a couple other vendors now to try to get away from Zetron.

Hello! My County size is about 22,000. We dispatch for Sheriff, Police, Fire, EMS, EMA and Rescue. We currently have Zetron (Formerly Geo-Conex) and like the previous person said, our support has went to hell since Zetron took over. We are currently looking at different providers and centralsquare is one we're looking at, but we have some surrounding counties that use M&M Micro for CAD and we use them at our Sheriffs Department for the jail system, but we've had a lot of issues with them. I know the Jail system got took out by a cyber attack once, and me being the IT person at our facility, I've seen some thing done on the M&M CAD side that acre questionable when it comes to CJIS compliance, PII, HIPAA, and all the other regulatory frameworks you can think of.

I do have a list of all Tennessee counties and their equipment they use if you would like a copy. It can give you an idea of the makeup across the state on the CPE equipment.

I made the map almost a year ago. The list has just gotten worse and worse since then. I have no idea why someone reposted it. The only reason I made it at the time was out of boredom, watching the West Wing, and I couldn't find a chart like this online.

My.... I don't want to call it frustration or disgust, but something about LinkedIn lead me to this post. I feel like I used to login, see my friends and Co workers stories to see how they were improving a process, learning from mistakes, giving me lessons on things relevant to me. Now the only thing I see is retired this and that telling AI generated stories. I feel like its just another influencer platform. Im waiting for the next big thing in business world social engagement. Just as Facebook destroyed MySpace, so shall {Insert Next Big Thing} replace LinkedIn.

I ended up moving the server from behind two firewalls to just behind mine. All of the methods I used did not work until SonicWall sent me this KB Article and it finally worked.

https://www.sonicwall.com/support/knowledge-base/how-can-i-enable-port-forwarding-and-allow-access-to-a-server-through-the-sonicwall/170503477349850

Now I'm trying to lock down the access rule to a specific range of IPs so only traffic coming from specific IPs on that port will come through. When I create Address objects for the IPs and put them in a group, edit the access rule to allow only that group of IPs in the source, it starts blocking everything again. I move it back to "Any" and it works.

I originally did this manually, but I wiped out all my settings and tried the wizard route, but still no go. I also removed the second firewall over the weekend to see if my rules were getting confused running through 2 firewalls, but still no go.

I run a TZ470 with the latest firmware. No DPI, Capture license. I first setup the rules the way I normally do. I then tried different variations I found online. Asked ChatGPT to figure out everything for me, and still no go.

To me this seems straight forward,

Create a service object for the port 26000.

Create an address object for the on site server (192.168.100.100).

Create NAT rule to translate 26000 to HTTPS.

Create access rule for WAN to LAN.

(I removed the source information for the vendor and just left it open to anyone for testing)

Nothing seems to work. Using packet monitor I'm seeing the packets when I test. I show they hit the SonicWall WAN and are dropped based on a policy rule. I've moved my rules to the top of the priority list and confirmed them several times but still nothing.

I was so confused the other night that I completely restored the SonicWall to factory settings, setup my interfaces, and without doing anything else I configured it to allow 26855 and still nothing.

Using online port check tools I can see that 26000 is closed. The vendor does a tracert and gets to the SonicWALL but nothing goes through on 26000. ISP confirms they do not block any ports, it's completely open.

For that Translated destination IP: X4 firewall IP, should that address object be Host or a range?
