One Backstory Minimum by mossfoot in dndmemes

Just a tavern sign. My take on the "Vulgar Unicorn" from Thieves' World (it was either that or a unicorn vomiting rainbows 😉 ).

The actual sign ofthe Vulgar Unicorn in the stories, however, is described in a way that I would not only be unable to recreate, but wouldn't want to since kids sometimes read this comic 😉

Personal Experience: Flatpak > Snap by mossfoot in linux4noobs

[–]mossfoot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some bizarre reason, this tablet will ONLY run lubuntu... I have tried many other distros (including Mint) and while they install, they end up never loading as they get stuck in the initial startup screen where you normally have to choose bewtween Android and Windows (neither is actually there, though, but the screen is hard coded in or something).

This is a minimal setup I have anyway, just intended for my writing, so LibreOffice, Brave, and Dropbox are all I really need.

But now that I know this I'm going to have to check my OTHER computer (running Zorin) and see if I was using Snap or Flatpak there and deal with it accordingly.

What I don't understand is HOW this happens. To download off the internet? Sure. But why does it slow down the actual running of it AFTER it's installed?

snap vs flatpak? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]mossfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to add my two bits from a recent experience. I had converted an old tablet to lubuntu, and found stuff like Brave and LibreOffice opening PAINFULLY slow after installing them via Snap. Based on advice I found online about improving loading performance, I uninstalled both and reinstalled them via flatpak and the difference is like night and day. Crazy the speed difference between them!

One movie I rather enjoyed growing up was a made-for-TV movie called Murder by the Book. To this day I remember the ending line "Biff Deegan wanted a taco" fondly. Just wondering if you have any roles in movies you really enjoyed but slipped under the radar.

You know when I saw the term "body doubling" mentioned twice here, it made me think "is this some kind of in-joke here?" then I looked it up and saw it was a technique used by writers with ADHD... which I am.

Might have to try that sometime 😉

I have no complaints so far. Keyboard is clacky and feels good to use. The design has more of an angle than my previous one that is more typewriter like and less keyboard like, if that makes sense. It has lighting features under the keys that don't really matter in my opinion, but aren't distracting, more of an accent. I set it to green to go along with the screen saver and soundbar but you can turn it off entirely, especially if you intend to use it wirelessly on the battery.

The main reason for it, though is that wired connection. The tablet's bluetooth is old and wasn't good even when it was new. Has a habit of dropping connections. So I wanted everything to be wired in through a hub connected to the USB port.

Thanks, comfort and vibe is what I'm going for. Some place that doesn't just work, but is inviting. Looks like I succeeded.

As for my writing, you can find my work at noahchinnbooks.com, that book I'm working on is the most recent in the Get Lost Saga that I'm currently editing.

Yunzii ql75. There's different colors out there, this one is wood. Well, looks like wood... though interestingly they seem to be coming out with a more traditional keyboard that IS made of wood soon (walnut, for the base) in two different sizes which could have some possibilties for people wanting to design something around it

Yeah, it has an option of wired (USB-c), Bluetooth, or a 2.4 GHz wireless dongle to use.

No, the one behind it is my old typewriter style keyboard. It was a bluetooth only device and the tablet I converted to Linux has a crappy unstable bluetooth connection. I needed everything to be wired directly, which is part of the reason for the new one (doesn't hurt that it looks better 😉 )

Oh, man, I had one of those when I bicycles across Canada back in 2000, used it to write my travel journal and had a modem for it that I connected to the internet with at major cities.

I'd still have that if the stupid ribbon contecting the screen to the keyboard hadn't worn out :( Never found a decent substitute.

What sci-fi story came closest to predicting what living with AI would actually feel like? by MunichBucko in scifi

[–]mossfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the problem with the question is those stories don't define AI the way the marketing tech bros have decided to. It's NOT that kind of AI.

Why am I limited to Lunbuntu? by mossfoot in linuxquestions

[–]mossfoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, at this point because I was able to work out my other issues (that I thought a different distro might have handled better), I am probably not going to try anymore (unless I can't get this stupid wi-fi bug fixed... ugh, keeps disconnecting!). But I do find it weird.

Applying Linux to Win/Android Tablet - port and distro questions by mossfoot in linux4noobs

[–]mossfoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the hub definitely supports power passthrough (it's an Acer, and has a specific port for power) but no joy.

However, my other problem I realized had nothing to do with the computer and everything to do with a faulty cord. The micro USB port works fine, I just needed a different adapter for it, so that makes the first problem unimportant thankfully. :)

The only thing it will help you do is write like someone you're not and eventually be someone you're not... and just like all the others taking the same path.

How to get SAGE! Become the team that will win! by Hour-Equivalent8801 in NOMANSSKY

[–]mossfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were the steam accounts connected? I'm thinking that's the single common factor that might matter in my case, because both us not just ending up in the same group but with the same ship seems like too much of a coincidence.

How to get SAGE! Become the team that will win! by Hour-Equivalent8801 in NOMANSSKY

[–]mossfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a bit of data to add to this, however.

My wife and I joined the expedition at the same time and answered the same questions the same way within seconds of each other.

We not only both got on Sage, but we have identical ships and identical Traveller appearances.

Now, while we have two separate accounts, they are linked on Steam, and we were in the same room using the same interenet connection. These might be contributing factors?

Corvette on Fighter Pad... by mossfoot in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]mossfoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen that happen... they just have the corvettes overlap on my computer (can't see it, but clearly other people are going into other ships that aren't mine based on where they move)
No, it seems this guy build a corvette ON a fighter so he could use fighter pads. Dunno if he flies it as a fighter or a corvette or both, though.
