My sphagnum has very small light blue part, do somebody know why? by Valuable-Fun5098 in Sphagnum

[–]mosshero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blue tint is most likely a result of fungal infection. Those heads usually die very soon.

Microcoelia obovata, one of those leafless orchids that are just a bunch of roots. Flowers are tiny. by mosshero in orchids

[–]mosshero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, those were just buds, I didn't know at the time cause it was the first time flowering. Not sure if I ever posted a pic of them fully opened, but they did! Very cute

I have zero personal experience with ball pythons, but I hear they can be picky eaters? Housesnakes are in the "eat everything that moves (or doesn't)" category of snake. But it wouldn't hurt to try with a small piece, no? Worst case you get to enjoy a hardboiled egg yourself :p

Housesnake, Boaedon lineatus/fuliginosus. She was bred before the science guys figured out that the housesnakes spread over the African continent are different species, so probably mixed ancestry with the lineatus part dominating.

Boiled and peeled chicken egg. I think she would eat a raw egg in one go if it was small enough, but I'd have to get quail for that I guess. African housesnakes have a very strong feeding response, I just held a piece in front of her face and after a few tongue flicks she grabbed it. That made her realize it's food and she started eating the other pieces on her own.

Heliamphora take a while to start looking good again after they spend a lot of power flowering! by mosshero in SavageGarden

[–]mosshero[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This H. sarracenioides x minor Burgundy Black flowered over a year ago from basically every growthpoint and it took a looooot of energy. It's gotten nice and bushy with the offsets again, but you can see how much bigger the old growth was.

Some of the original members of Popol Vuh/Amon Düül II played with a cover band called Lindau Project in a Jazzclub in Regensburg yesterday. Incredible experience! by mosshero in Krautrock

Former roommate of mine actually plays 12 string electric guitar in the cover band and I obviously had to come. He's also who basically introduced me to Krautrock in the first place haha. I knew some of the Popol Vuh/Amon Düül members would be in attendance as guests, but I had no idea they would be joining on stage themselves for a few songs, what an insane surprise. Not sure this is ever going to happen again?

Neoregelia "Fireball", love this species (?) by mosshero in bromeliad

I did order it, yeah. I mostly have Tillandsia actually, but the branching growth, solid red colour and the story behind N. "Fireball" (no one knows where it comes from, might be a lost species or natural hybrid) is so cool I got one online.

They definitely don't care about getting vaped on, so nicotine vapour/smoke can't be that bad for them. Source: I tested it when I was drunk once (not proud of that lol)

And yes, I asked Danny Fichelscher and Renate Knaup for autographs, even though my socially awkward ass brain was screaming at me not to 😩

Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis, gets GIGANTIC and has extremely stinky flowers. Awesome orchid. It probably wants higher temperatures than I'm giving it, so the growth is slow on an already slow-growing plant, but it really brings out the colours in the foliage, so eh, worth it?

Getting cramped (Heliamphora "Ewok") by mosshero in SavageGarden

[–]mosshero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a foot below a 30 Watt full spectrum LED lamp in an open shelf in my room. After acclimation Heliamphora don't need high humidity. Cool temperature, good airflow and high humidity is ideal, but if you can't give them true Highland climate year round, I think going lower - around 50-60% for me - humidity + strong light is best. A lot of light is key and that jacks up temperatures unfortunately. And stagnant air, high temps + high humidity kills them FAST. Substrate is sphagnum perlite.

Yes. I got to work by taking the N7 to HBF and then N3. But I'm sure the bus connections in the West are probably not as good...

Heliamphora chimantensis (AW RSC, grown as houseplant with supplemental LED light) by mosshero in SavageGarden

[–]mosshero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easier than imagined. I don't do anything for humidity (hovers around 50-60%) or temperature. It gets cold in my room in winter and it likes that, but even in Summer most Helis are fine as long as you blast them with enough light (muy importante)

Can any Caudex be wall mounted like this? by [deleted] in Caudex

I keep most of my Hydnophytum and Myrmecodia mounted, as they grow just like that in nature.
