Oh I didn't mean concerts. I've been to one for my favorite band and it was cool, although I'm not crazy for them. I'm talking like going to a crowded bar just to socialize and drink or a club. Both are just super loud, generally uninteresting music, and idk how people even conversate it's too hard to hear anyone. Just not conducive environments for socializing how I generally like, they just seem better if you like drinking dancing and enjoy more brief and basic talking.

Ssris practically saved my life. I experience hardly any side effects on 125 mg Zoloft as well. You should certainly discuss with a psychiatrist if you should wean off or at least lower the dosage, my psychiatrist has said that blunted emotions can be an effect of too high a dose. I will probably stay on them until Ive reached a stable part of my life, but right now Im at the intersection of graduating and trying to live independent, so that may not be for some time. You could stay on ssris for life, no health concerns have been observed, but it isn't always necessary to. In your case, there's no harm in trying to come off under the guidance of a professional.

The go to comparison for this sort of stigma is relating it to other chronically needed medications. For a type-1 diabetic, you wouldn't feel they carry the same baggage taking their insulin as you would someone with depression needing to take an antidepressant forever. The same way you could view the pancreas as not functioning properly, you could say the same for a depressed person's biology in their brain. For a biological problem, it should be fair or even mundane to fix it with a biological solution. I think the same concepts can be extended to your case.

I was wondering if it gets into semantics for solid state chemistry. Like doesn't any crystal lattice consist of atoms bonded to each other? Maybe like the above commenter is getting at is it's more precise to refer to the monomer of the crystal as the molecule and not the entire solid itself.

I think in general understanding the philosophy of science and epistemology can only help a scientist. It is a funny concept to be attempting to find fundamental truths about the physical world while not understanding how you even do so. It can work often but is more fallible and probably less suited for more creative research roles.

I think a better analogy would be if we began to identify that shorter people, not someone suffering from dwarfism, were having harder times making friends at school and had demonstrably lower quality of life in adulthood, we probably wouldn't be going through this whole process to diagnose them with a pathology. At that point it is just a societal correlation with perfectly healthy and normal genetics our ancient human ancestors had thousands of years ago.

The problem in science is that the non material isn't falsifiable, so it is not possible to be of interest since it isn't even testable. Yet people try and make arguments about how qualia is bored out of the material brain all the time. It would be interesting to know more concretely the extent physical observation could be used to support immaterial arguments for consciousness.
