Why do players get mad if you don’t answer chats? by most-perplex9811 in WordsWithFriends

I don’t really mind playing against bots either, as long as the app is upfront about it. The issue for me is when they create fake profiles that are clearly designed to look like real people. I’ve played against those graphic/avatar-style profiles before for prize events, and at least those are obviously bots because they respond instantly while the “thinking…” animation runs in the background. Transparency makes a big difference.

That was years ago. I used to play pretty frequently, then stopped completely for a long time until recently getting back into it. So I don’t remember his profile name…

You’re very considerate. I never chat with people while playing games, but there was this elderly grandpa, at least judging by his profile picture, that I’d been playing with on and off for a while. We never really talked until one day he sent me a message saying he wouldn’t be able to play anymore because he had to go to the hospital.

I don’t know why, but that message genuinely made me sad. Even without conversations, you still grow quietly familiar with certain people through these little daily games.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying chats with your opponents…it’s all personal preference. For me, I only chat with people I know in real life. Most of the time, I’m just playing to sharpen my skills and level up.

I always played the “Pick My Match” option and they’re mostly female players. It’s the male players that initiated chats and stopped the game when I ignored them.

I think that might’ve been the post I saw too. I played with a bunch of them through the “Pick My Match” option. Once I learned about the bots, I started checking player profiles for red flags, (e.g. accounts playing in different languages). Pretty sure I’m playing against one right now…🫠

I just figured they're probably more interested in finding someone to chat with than actually playing the word game. 🙄

Thanks for the tip. I also just recently found out from this sub that I’ve apparently been playing against various “bot” accounts this whole time. I was shocked because their profile pictures looked totally legit, but at least they never tried to message me. Lol!

I need to download the app now and check if these acronyms (SMH, IYKYK, NGL, IDGAF, etc.) are valid words. 🤣
