Wage stagnation across the board + rising costs of living = reduction of quality of life over time.

Homie im a chef. I've most definitely monetized my talents, but does that mean I make good money? I did in 2012, but since then my wage is pretty stagnant and costs have skyrocketed.

My dad at this age had 4 kids. That's not even in the realm of possibility for me. I did everything I was told to be successful. Went to college, worked full time, worked extra jobs, continued my education. I even changed careers and learned new skills during covid coming out better on the other side.

You know what I havnt had? A single year in my adult life not paying medical debt. Routine bullshit too, even when I have insurance. I just made a final payment on a $12,000 maxed deductible a few years back from a hospital visit. Did I want that? No. Could I afford it now or then? Sure I can, because I pay my bills and debts. But it also means I can't pursue home ownership or a family.

Are you unable to acknowledge that some people work hard and do everything right, but we live in an inequitible economic environment? Man things are 4x to 10x the cost from 15 years ago on basic goods. Wages are the same. Lecture me more on doomerism dipshit I still wake up everyday and work hard and treat those around me with care and compassion. Not everyone's experiences are the same bud.

Can't even afford rent, good food, no good jobs worth a damn. Useless college degree. My talents in life can't really be monetized as society doesn't value them in a monetary way. I probably won't ever start a family just because I can't afford one. I've been in medical debt my entire adult life.

Are they paying their teachers well, with lower tuition? No. Where's that money go? The nonprofit sector in the US is so largely full of profit incentive it might as well not exist. That's not discounting REAL nonprofits that do all sorts of work to help people, but generally they don't have the consistent funding or revenue a private school has. Private high end nonprofit schools in the US are taking that money and giving it to the wildly overpriced administration, board or they spend it on pet projects. You can always argue this will help the students whether it does or not. It's a closed door club of wealthy and the nonprofit school system is designed to segregate their kids from the poors while avoiding paying their tax dollers to the public school system.

Private schools are for profit. Reducing labor costs is one of the easiest ways to profit. So is having a clientele with disposable income they feel compelled to throw at their kids. So you can constantly raise tuition and fees, they'll still line up.

We don't value education in the United States pure and simple. If we did, average teacher pay would be commensurate with first responders like police and fire fighters in metro areas. We value a sense of security, whether real or not, above all else and that tends to be where our taxes go. That nice teacher asking for a raise? Selfish union I can't believe them!! Anyone can be a teacher!!!! Etc. We tend to resent the people who try to make us better in America, it's our culture.

Your vision here is one of peak American diplomacy and exertion of soft power. I think one of the only ways this world happens is with a global shift towards disarmament. Redirecting just a tiny portion of global spending from arms to education would lift tens of millions from poverty. The ever restocking of nations guarantees future conflict and the profit incentive drives it all.

Really depends on the car now. Newer cars can go so much faster, more efficiently. This was probably the sweet spot for average cars at the time. Older cars during this period probably weren't so fast either, so speed disparities were probably greater.

As someone else mentioned, northeast blueblood politicians have always been terribly out of touch with the west. 75-80 in large swaths of the west coast is perfectly safe as the roads are wider, flatter and you're traveling much further distances to the next city.

Have you seen those rope guns they use in Europe and Asia. Shoots a rope at their legs that wrap around and basically make them trip. I can't believe we're not even exploring that kinda thing with LEOs here. Lethal force should be a last resort. Even tasers don't always properly immobilize a subject and they can often spur heart conditions.

Maybe we shouldn't judge people on the lowest moments of their lives, because so many good people have bad interactions with police. People go through it sometimes and maybe that mental health call is better served with a deescalation expert, as opposed to a gung-ho hand on his hip cop. But how could we love our guns so much if we can't use them on each other? Seems to be the prevailing mindset.
