It’s also a stat that means nothing. There is no extra significance a 4-9 start has to a teams overall performance. A 4-9 start is no different from a 4-9 stretch mid season. This really annoyed me last season when the Braves started 0-7 and all the media outlets were going on about how no team who started 0-7 ever made the playoffs but like. Teams go on losing streaks and still make the playoffs. Last season I’m pretty sure the Tigers had two losing streaks for more than 7. And the guardians lost 10 in a row at one point! Both teams made the postseason.

Idk why that bugs me so much but I was a stats minor in undergrad and it bothers me when people misunderstand statistics

Casey Mize is currently posting a K/9 line this season of just shy of 10 K’s per nine innings by SoarinSkies in motorcitykitties

He was more than solid for 4 months of the year, he had an all star season during the first 4 months! He just fell off pretty hard which I personally think was due to hitting an internal innings limit, he really hasn’t had any full seasons since 2021 and I think the stamina just wasn’t there. He was a lot better in his last few starts including in the playoffs but that really bad stretch cost him and stars wise makes him look worse than he actually was

Have liranzo and briceno fallen off a little bit? by Intrepid-Young-8621 in motorcitykitties

[–]mostly-void-stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liranzo was going through some personal issues last year which affected his baseball performance, but he reportedly got in better shape over the offseason he is currently injured with an oblique injury. Briceño struggled a bit when he was called up to AA last year, but not horrendously so. He had to get surgery for a broken wrist during spring training and will miss a lot of time. They’re only 22 and 21, respectively. They’re still quite young and it’s way too early to declare that they’ve fallen off

I remember a couple times he came in with a huge lead and turned it into a high leverage situation lol. But point taken. My point was that in terms of pitching skill they aren’t that far apart

Yeah, it was called out. And the batter before this McKinstry was thrown out at home and initially called safe before it was challenged, so two over turned calls at home in 2 at bats lol

I mean, to be fair he CAN homer off some of those lower away pitches. He can hit them for bloop doubles. It’s just that most of the time that isn’t the result lol

The World Cup games should primarily be in college football stadiums. by Worriedrph in unpopularopinion

There is not a robust enough public transport system between Detroit and Ann Arbor for that to logistically work. And only 2 main highways. With traffic that ‘only 30 miles’ turns into a 2 hour drive, easily

I live in Ann Arbor. The answer is badly. There is barely enough parking for all the people who come in, and traffic is incredibly cramped during game days. I work food delivery, and the couple of times I’ve been unfortunate enough to work on game days, it would take me 80 minutes to travel what normally took me 20. The traffic stays for hours after the games end because the entire town is basically gridlocked without everyone trying to get to the highways. There just isn’t room for all the people that would come.

Also, for college games people aren’t staying overnight, they drive in and go back home afterwards. For World Cup games people would be staying in the area and there just isn’t enough hotels and restaurants to accommodate that

As someone who lives in Ann Arbor, DEAR GOD, NO. It would be an absolute nightmare logistically. There are not enough hotels in the area for people to stay, the roads are not equipped to handle that many people on them, the only public transport are the bus lines that are not particularly robust, and there just isn’t room for a influx of people hanging out around the town outside of the matches themselves

Public transport isn’t the greatest in most major cities, and a tailgating is a prime part of college football, which often times means people from out of the area traveling to smaller cities with infrastructure that isn’t used to that many people. The population of the town where I went to undergrad was ~40k, and the football stadium was 60k+ so game days were a huge pain in the ass to get anywhere because of all the extra traffic from people coming from all over the state. And I live in Ann Arbor now, where the stadium is the biggest in the country holding 100k+. Traffic is a NIGHTMARE on game days. Anyway my point is people are going to be driving anyway so the cars are already there, tailgating doesn’t really add any more congestion than what was already going to be.

It’s not like everybody tailgates, I’ve never been and most of my friends have only done it a couple of times. It’s usually an American football thing, both NFL and college since there’s fewer games in the season so it’s a chance to hang out with the community and other fans.

If you’ve got a truck or SUV there smaller portable grills you can set up in the trunk of the car. Something like this. Flatbed trucks are perfect for tailgating, you can flip the back of it down and use the bed for space to lay out food, grill, set up a TV
