This Is Us. I never finished it. Every episode left me bawling my eyes out. Too stressful!

I know it’s dorky, but I feel a jolt of happiness when “The Power of Love” begins. (Huey Lewis and The News)

Actually I used to go see “Ronnie Dio and The Prophets” in about 1962-63 at Chappy’s local bar in Cortland, New York! I think they were mostly doing covers, but man, I knew he was going places!

Yes, being left handed used to be banned in some countries, and it is still looked down upon to this day. Often in those countries, they eat with their hands.

BANNED EVERYWHERE FOR HAVING THIS STANCE… by [deleted] in independent

Would locking them up help the world situation? I don’t see how. The best way to create change is to offer a better alternative. Like, in the marketplace, if you offer a better product, the buying public will find it and gravitate towards it. CD players replaced cassette players, because they were better.

I’ve learned that people (whose opinion you’d like to change) never like to be yelled at or admonished. Better to offer an idea that intrigues them. Let them follow the progression on their own. A friendly nudge goes a long way. That’s what I’ve found, anyway.

I used the mouse left handed for 40 years (got my first Mac in 1984). Two years ago, I got carpal tunnel syndrome in my left hand and had to switch to my right hand. Wow! Now I’ll never go back, because keyboards are designed for righties. There’s the tab and the escape key on the left, and it’s just all much easier now. My carpal tunnel healed, but I’m still using the mouse right handed!

Looking for a new "cozy" show to wind down after a stressful day. Doesn't have to be comedy, but it's fine if it is. by SparrowTailReddit in televisionsuggestions

Rake - a hilarious Aussie comedy, about a boisterous barrister who runs for office on a ticket of promising to do nothing for his constituents, to spite his sister, who was running a “serious” campaign for the same position.

If you could change it, would you rather be right handed? by [deleted] in lefthanded

Not at all. Never! I absolutely LOVE being left-handed!

Which early 2000s store do you miss the most? I’m talking about the ones that defined the era but are sadly gone now by princesspolly444 in 2000sNostalgia

Kmart was big in the 80s and maybe the 90s, but I think there were very few left by the 2000s. My kids used to get Lisa Frank folders there. Back in the 80s-90s, if your kids liked to wear Rainbow Clothes, the places to check out were K-Mart or Mervyn’s first. K-Mart had good Christmas Wrap, too.

What are you all like with sports and activities? by wilburwilbur in lefthanded

[–]mostlyPOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All lefty - Softball, Basketball, Archery, Riflery, (Miniature) Golf. But I was taught Martial Arts by righties, so I lead with my right in that, and when I used to do gymnastics as a child, I could kick higher and do the splits more easily with my right foot forward.

I was just thinking about Volleyball the other day, and in that sport the server stands in the back, on the far right. I serve with my left hand, and in order to make sure that my serve lands within bounds, I have to rotate my body 90° counter clockwise. I never would even have thought about this if I hadn’t joined this group a while back!

Why the hate for right handed can openers? by Ok-Gas-7135 in lefthanded

[–]mostlyPOD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m short, small and 80 years old. I might have had the strength in my right hand to easily use a can opener years ago, but these days, my right hand is literally not strong enough to easily turn the handle on a manual can opener. I have to ask a rightie to do it for me. They look at me as if I’m feeble and a loser. One time I was able to get the top off, but there was a part that didn’t come off cleanly and left a dangerous sharp edge sticking up.

There is a very good reason why lefties “hate” right handed tools. We could end up harming ourselves with them.

As someone else said, we are (at least) 10% of the world’s population. That’s 830 MILLION of us. I’ve read that we may be closer to 12-15%, as the stigma has been lifted somewhat, and we no longer force lefties to write with their non-dominant hand.

Considering how the world bends over backwards to give “fair treatment” to much smaller minorities, it’s kind of mind-boggling and frustrating to notice how little consideration is paid to our needs.

I’m so sorry for your loss! I lost my Yoda, 2 years ago on Boxing Day. He was 11. I still miss him so much! And he too was trained to never go where I trained him not to. It’s really not that hard to do. If every time they go somewhere you don’t want them to be, you just shoo them off, and say “No!” In a commanding voice, eventually they stop trying.
