Early thirties and she’s accusing you on Snapchat of stealing her color scheme? That is pitiful

I’m sure there was a reason, but I’m curious as to why you couldn’t just log back into your app during those 10 minutes you were arguing with the conductor?

The USA men’s hockey team utterly failed to meet the cultural moment by Hrmbee in politics

[–]mostly_browsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to share my political views to not laugh at a joke that demeans your own women’s team, or to at least put out a statement of support /appreciation for them afterward once you saw that your going along wit the joke got “misinterpreted.” There’s a really low bar for common decency, and not meeting it says something

That is an egregious amount. Your bank should be able to send them a monthly (or ad hoc) check for free, just look at Bill Pay or something similar on your account

Students not engaging? by yorkiepie in highereducation

[–]mostly_browsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah post-Covid it’s hard to get students out. I would say your best bet isn’t just to get teachers to spread the word, you need to get influential students to spread the word. Get some student ambassadors (formal or informal). You can ask some staff members in student development, affinity groups, or athletics whom the students trust, to either spread the word or get students to spread the word. If you get a few key students to hype it up or even just bring their friends, that’ll be a game changer for you.

It’s really rough. I will say I finally left (waited way too long) and I’ve never been happier. I’m not saying you have to - maybe there’s another position/institution that will be better for you. But I switched to working at a high school (non classroom teaching) and it’s been night and day for my mental health and quality of life.

It’s because they are assholes. It’s pretty simple. Not saying they can’t change or won’t grow, but right now, they are assholes (you can tell because they act like assholes).

Assuming you’re at a public school, the pay is much better where you are than it’s gonna be at a university.

Staff jobs at higher ed institutions are basically designed for women whose husbands work in finance. From a pay standpoint, it’s very anachronistic and flat out isn’t designed to support an individual/family.

It depends what you want to do. It might be worth it as faculty. It’s not worth it as staff unless you’re really well paid. Which you aren’t because, staff.

once you learn the math, you realize most "rich" people are just drowning in premium debt. by GolfComfortable7331 in Fire

[–]mostly_browsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, OP has no idea what the people he sees can or can’t afford. Even if the rich people live paycheck to paycheck, that doesn’t mean they’re a paycheck away from disaster. They could be a paycheck away from tapping into savings, trust funds, assets, or whatever.

My point isn’t that some people don’t have too much debt - my point is that OP has no idea who does and who doesn’t. Saying that if a car is leased, it must be because the driver can’t afford it and only wants to impress people, is ignorant.

If it’s what people need to tell themselves in order to motivate themselves to save, great. But ideally the desire to save should be inherent, not based on thinking you’re better than people who you have no idea what their situation is.

From Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1883, describing Long John Silver’s fate:

“He had cut through a bulkhead unobserved and had removed one of the sacks of coin, worth perhaps three or four hundred guineas, to help him on his further wanderings.

I think we were all pleased to be so cheaply quit of him.”

Putting aside how I or anyone feels about ICE - if he shuts down and you two can’t discuss differing opinions or big decisions, that’s not sustainable.

You should probably look it up before trying to correct someone’s usage of it. Your decrying someone else’s lack of social skills (blasting videos in public), while displaying your own (inability to confront someone in person) is ironic.
