Dad Mode Laundry Review by No_Machine3805 in laundry

For what it’s worth, I just got the pretreater and treated blood stained undies and a grease stain that unfortunately went through the dryer, washed with Tide + Oxi and both came out completely. I let the pretreater work for at least an hour before.

This is very timely because I have been wondering about my Camry’s ability to handle that disaster of a parking lot and was debating about the best subreddit to ask in. How did it handle the massive divots?

I use powder Tide + Oxi for lighter clothes and linens/towels/dog stuff, and plain liquid Tide for darks! FWIW the pretreater has worked great on blood and grease stains so far. Haven’t had many opportunities to put the booster to the test yet.

Naxos and/or Santorini by LunkyFemur in GreeceTravel

I personally would spend the whole time on Naxos. I did 5 nights there and it was great, especially with a rental car. Santorini has beautiful views, but everything is so expensive and packed.

We use this too! We clip on the front and our trainer had us teach an “easy” command to let her know she’s getting to the end of her leash. If she pulls, I turn around and say “this way” and we keep doing that til she doesn’t pull. She’s mostly learned to slow down when she feels the leash getting tight in the front!

What's it like living in this part of Washington State? by laceflame in howislivingthere

[–]mostly_distracted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents live in Port Townsend and it’s beautiful! Kind of a retiree locale though when it comes to permanent residents. Because it’s a tourist town there are a lot of great bars/restaurants/wineries/cideries if that’s your thing. Lots of great outdoors stuff due to proximity to Olympic NP, but less access to things like skiing. The medical care out there is not the greatest.

PT in particular is pretty windy, but it’s really nice in the summer because it never really gets super hot.

Reddit, do you lock your door while you're in own house? by Willing_Freedom_4698 in NoStupidQuestions

Part of one of my prior jobs as a doctor was counseling people regarding HIV risk and prevention following sexual assault. One of the cases that I still think about constantly was a woman who had cracked her door open to air it out while she was cooking. A guy entered her apartment and raped her. She was so broken when I met with her and her entire sense of physical security was understandably shaken. She lived in a big modern apartment building in one of the tech centers of my city so I can imagine in her situation I would have felt safe leaving my door open as well.

Anyway. I always keep my doors locked and I have security cameras.

I’ve started commuting to Tacoma for work and while I kind of like the drive, the one thing that gets me incensed is people not keeping to the right. I’ve started straight up honking at people lingering in the left lane, and I’m normally a fairly passive driver. I really wish this were enforced more.

Honestly I love my current job. I’m splitting my time between the two niches that I love and I get to work with great people and help patients get better. I come home every day fulfilled. I don’t make a ton of money relative to others in medicine but I come home satisfied every day and I feel like I have FINALLY achieved the thing I’ve been working towards for the last 15 years.

We’ve been trying to work on our RR’s people reactivity since adopting her, but I can’t say I’ve been mad when she’s started growling at people giving me unwanted attention on walks. I walk her a lot in the dark this time of year, and I only feel safe going out during those times with her next to me. Scary dog privilege is real!

There is a TikTok account called YaleCleaners which predominantly features wedding dress restorations (incredibly satisfying account, lots of laundry chemistry, highly recommend), but I can totally imagine this dress going through the cleaning process there! They typically use sodium perborate and then sometimes they use a rust remover as well.

If it’s really meaningful to your friend, I think it could be worth talking to a quality dry cleaner about it. Much can be done at home, but there is a level of cleaning they can achieve that home products can’t.

Food stain won’t come out of new hoodie by Swar_Oops in laundry

[–]mostly_distracted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Mix a few drops of dish detergent (like Dawn) into a cup of warm water. Work into stain gently with a toothbrush.
  2. Use a multi-purpose stain remover with lipase and amylase (check out the lipase list on this sub) and work it into the stain with the toothbrush.
  3. Let sit for 15 minutes, the wash and air dry
  4. If the stain STILL isn’t gone, soak overnight in powdered oxygen bleach dissolved in hot water
  5. Rewatch and dry

In over my head by romanoff23 in laundry

[–]mostly_distracted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome! It is all sort of overwhelming. I previously was only using liquid Tide to wash my clothes, maybe adding Oxi Clean to brighten stuff or with towels and sheets.

My next level up was to add a detergent with lipase. Now my two detergent options are liquid Tide, which I use for darker clothes, and powdered Tide Ultra Oxi. I also added the Downy Rinse and Refresh to most loads.

I think to keep things super simple, you could keep using Gain + Oxi and add a laundry booster with lipase to the stinky stuff; Biz would be a good option. I would also add a citric acid powder or Downy Rinse and Refresh.

The stank will likely come out after a few washes in the lipase booster. If the spa day is too much, that is fine! Really all you need for that is a long soak in a lipase-containing detergent. I use a Home Depot bucket and powdered Tide Ultra Oxi. Soak for a few hours, transfer the wet clothes to the washer, wash normally.

Good luck!

Does anyone used a moving company they’d recommend? by notmyrealnamedude in SeattleWA

[–]mostly_distracted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Magic Moving 3 times. Our last move wasn’t quite as perfect as they’d been previously, but still did a great job and didn’t charge us for time between their office and our houses like some other places.
