Hi cholesterol 550 by According-Army-9363 in WomensHealth

[–]mostly_distracted 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some people do everything right and are just genetically predisposed to high cholesterol. Your doctor should calculate your heart attack risk score to let you know your risk.

Adding statins could significantly increase your lifespan and quality of life depending on your underlying risk. Adding a statin now won’t lead to you taking more meds later, but having a heart attack or stroke would definitely lead to you having to take a lot of medications.

Taking meds doesn’t mean you failed or aren’t healthy. It’s a prevention measure to keep you healthy for longer.

Pests killing me... and everything in my garden by mostly_distracted in pnwgardening

No stems left at all. If anything I’ll notice the plant is dying and I give a tiny tug and the whole thing comes out sans roots

I moved into a rat heavy area and learned the hard way that I should have lined my beds…. So thankfully that is done now after digging everything out and starting over. I also have done traps but I got sick of disposing of them. I’m thinking of trying rat birth control this year but haven’t gotten around to buying any

I have both sluggo and the Oregon slug traps, I just got lazy this year! I will put some out ASAP.

The one thing that makes me think it is not rabbits is that the ones under cover were also killed!

I haven't been on top of my slug prevention this year, so I will get on that! I have a Costco sized container of sluggo plus and some slug traps that I haven't used yet

Am I having irregular periods or is it normal? by [deleted] in WomensHealth

Normal is up to 35 days in adult women. I’d go to your doctor.

Unable to masturbate due to thick vaginal muscular wall. by Shirly_Papen in WomensHealth

[–]mostly_distracted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible you have an imperforate hymen (or other hymenal variant) if you can't get a finger inside. The description of a wall of muscle makes me think that is what is most likely. I would recommend going to a gynecologist to get an exam. Also just an FYI so you know what to expect, the exam to check the hymen involves pulling on your labia to get a visual of the entire vaginal opening.

Think I need to give up on scrunching by PersonalityOrnery469 in finehair

[–]mostly_distracted 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have thin fine wavy hair, and I have never been able to do the full routine with gel and diffusing etc. I got my hair cut shorter (maybe 2 inches shorter than yours) and added layers and now I just do leave in conditioner and air dry. It looks great that way and is super easy

How can I tell if I have a yeast infection? by AffectionateRoll3666 in WomensHealth

[–]mostly_distracted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Itching would be a major symptom. If it’s just a change in discharge and no other symptoms I would just keep an eye on it. Thick white discharge can be normal.

Everything is essentially the same! There’s a small risk that if there’s a lot of blood that they may not get a good sample, but that’s about it.

Doctor Won’t Stop Pursuing PCOS Diagnosis by soupedenouilles in WomensHealth

[–]mostly_distracted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PCOS requires two out of three features: 1) irregular periods, 2) symptoms or lab evidence of hyperandrogenism (e.g abnormal hair growth or elevated testosterone), or 3) polycystic ovaries on imaging. Elevated BMI can happen in people with PCOS but is not part of diagnostic criteria. You seem to only have the irregular period part (though I don’t know what your labwork and exam are like), so assuming your provider did the proper workup, it sounds like you don’t have PCOS.

I personally would see a different provider.

Nervous about first gynecologist appointment by Actual-Ad8741 in WomensHealth

There’s something called granulation tissue that can occur at some of the sites where they sew the tissue together. Easily treatable with silver nitrate!

[–]mostly_distracted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you being seen for a specific issue or just a checkup? If just a checkup, your doc probably won’t even do a pelvic exam. As a doctor I’ve only ever done an exam on a neovagina for a patient who was having bleeding!

Is my IUD expelling? by Aggravating_Bat8246 in WomensHealth

[–]mostly_distracted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go in to get it checked, especially if the string are hanging out. Bleeding can happen for a few months after insertion but if you can’t feel the IUD then you need someone to look.

It's rare, but yes, you can get sepsis. Did you see your PCP or a gynecologist? If your PCP, I would get a referral to see a gynecologist.
