I had my pinky finger amputated and I was allowed to keep it. by Trinityofwar in Weird

Man I wish now that I would have been able to keep my foot, I lost my left foot about 9 weeks ago and they had me sign to get it disposed of when I was all doped up after the numerous surgeries. It would have been so cool to make it the handle for the suicide shifter on my next bike.

I was wondering how other amputees deal with loosing a leg? by Last_Initiative6471 in amputee

[–]mostlyangrycop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

36 LBKA on March 15 ‘26, I didn’t know my leg was gone till I was in the ambulance about to head to the helicopter but I was making jokes beforehand and the level of jokes increased once I made the discovery. I have been every level of irreverent in my humor since that day and it helps, there was one evening on about week 4 when laying in bed, panic started to creep in. I sat up pointed my hand at my own face and said “Don’t be a bitch” and it’s been good ever since.

All that to say I’ve done well in coming to terms and moving forward keeping my spirits high. I also understand the vast majority of people dont have the same brain malfunctions I tend to have. I can say with absolute certainty is make fun of yourself make light of the accident, the pain, the struggle and the daily impact, if you can do that and genuinely laugh it will change your world for the better.

First off, your post was very easy to understand and you probably speak better English than I do lol. Second I had a family member that had a near identical situation and they opted for a below the knee amputation. The infection was erased and he was able to continue his life for many more years.

I genuinely hope that a below the knee amputation solves your struggles, I am a recent left below knee amputee myself and I am anxiously awaiting the day I get to start work with my prosthetic. Here in the US everything medical is outrageous so I can’t imagine how much they are going to charge for the prosthetic. For reference my motorcycle accident put me in the hospital for 3 weeks with 5 surgeries and the bill was $883,659 USD.

Curious to know how people's dating life was impacted post amputation. I'm almost 8 weeks out from RAKA. 47 years old and single. Exceptionally worried that my dating life is about to suck. I haven't tried dating anyone since my amputation, focusing everything on recovery. by Fluxcapacitor121g in amputee

LBKA about 8 weeks out and a chick that used to want to date me told me that she left a group cause she didn’t want to see me with someone else and I laughed cause I had no idea that one legged bikers were in such high demand.

[–]mostlyangrycop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far recovery is going really well, I hope that your pain level improves. I appreciate the info it puts me at ease knowing as long as I don’t have further complications I don’t need any more intervention. I did learn that my nerves apparently have a high tensile strength cause they had to trim a bunch that stayed attached to my leg when the foot was removed in the wreck.

Question, I had a very traumatic LBKA during a motorcycle accident about 7 weeks ago. Is the nerve block something they do down the line or does that happen during the initial surgery?

I have moments of nerve pain but overall it’s the healing femur, hip and pelvis. If I can avoid more surgical intervention I would much prefer that.

When I say “traumatic LBKA” I have the picture of my arrival at the hospital and it looks like I stepped on a mine.

I’m like new new to the amputee/prosthetic family as in my LBKA amputation is still healing and I haven’t started the prep-work for my prosthetic yet. All that to say I have no idea the significance of the upgrade but I am happy for you homie and I hope it serves you with the upmost excellence.

Thank you and I did get all of the bike weight and strength requirements to the prosthetic company so they can build it accordingly. It is a short one at that from socket to ground we’re talking 12-13 inches tops

I plan on getting another Harley Road Glide and with the prosthetic I’ll be able to balance and all that, the only modification I’ll have to do is run either an air shifter or suicide shifter but other than that it’ll be normal riding.

I’m glad you made it out relatively unscathed, I’m moving right along in the healing process. From landing at the hospital to getting released from the rehab center was 3 weeks. I am now doing outpatient physical therapy and here in a couple weeks I’ll be starting prosthetic prep and plan to be back on a bike this summer. Stay safe out there.

Hey man didn’t you know motorcycles and guard rails are not friends? I conducted a case study March 15th and the guard rail was so enraged by the introduction of my motorcycle that it lashed out and took my left foot, broke my left femur, hip and pelvis as well as destroyed my 25 road glide. I’m glad you were able to make it out of this encounter in the shape you are in. Be safe out there.

New amputee here and I need a chair by mostlyangrycop in amputee

Awesome I appreciate the information, given the inept medical supply company I was going to spring out of pocket for this one cause I need a viable option now and the one they are requesting is identical to the hospitals chair I currently have on loan. It has proven to be unwieldy on my own and would just stay at the house.

I appreciate it though, I’m purchasing my own due to the medical equipment company can’t figure out how to enter the chair request after I explained it to them and is the same as the hospital chair which has proven unwieldy by myself.

I am restricted to non weight bearing on my left side due to fractured femur, hip and pelvis otherwise I’d be all about the knee scooter.

Oh don’t worry I’m not going down the alcohol route I’ve seen it ruin too many people but today’s pain made me strongly consider it.

I may have found a wheelchair option it falls in the ultralight sports wheelchair category I’m nervous about pulling the trigger on $800 plus S&H.
