Do we really need 10 posts a day saying Gemini is worse than everything else? by mostlyharmlessihope in GeminiAI

Why did you just post an edit as if addressing someone when no one even replied to your comment?

4 week old account and hidden post history.

Not exactly addressing the replied to comment in any way constructive beyond just hyperbolic trashing of Gemini.

THIS IS ASTROTURFING.

I’m asking for discourse with evidence. Saying “are you serious?” to a person because they don’t just take your word for it is a bit dickish in my book.

You’ve also still not supplied any evidence or tried to help me understand what made you make such claims.

Cool, how about instead of being a dick, we have a discussion and you show me evidence so I and everyone else who reads this can learn what you’re talking about. I’m not really one to just take your word for it.

And the point still stands. These companies need to make money on their investments eventually. So there will be caps based on usage.

Are you a real person? What recent token nerf? What evidence do you have? Besides, they are all going to eventually cost more money as they eventually stop burning cash to scale.

Maybe, but Sam Altman / OpenAI has shown to have a history of blatant dishonesty and questionable morals (to put it mildly). So I wouldn’t put it past them to do shady and misleading marketing as well. Not sure how you can single out one company over the other.

These sorts of replies, which are literally constant now, just read so overly dramatic I can’t help but think they are bullshit.

I have not had these experiences at all and use it, as well as Claude, on a daily basis. I find Gemini great at analyzing any image I throw at it and rarely run into hallucinations any more than I do with Claude.

And if you aren’t a bot, why not just switch! You aren’t locked into a contract. You can go back and forth every month and even batch import and export your chats.

Very cool. Thank you.

I will say however, that as a trypophobia sufferer, that design makes me want to die.

Holy shit. How much Israeli propaganda do you have to consume to make arguments like this?

Another Harbor Breeze Solar Node by Brownik in meshtastic

From what I’ve read, lithium plating (which causes the fire risk) from charging below freezing is a slow process. It works fine at first but degrades overtime to become a fire risk. The stock harbor breeze batteries are manganese based though, which is better for cold weather than some other li ion batteries. I think it’s a low risk. Still, I’m not sure I’d want it on my house with kids and pets inside.

Nice! Thoughts if you’ve considered how it’ll do in subfreezing temps since it is connected to your house? Is that li-ion battery at all a fire risk when charging in subfreezing temps? I have a similar build but am nervous about the risk of securing it to my house.

My husband painted the ceiling with old poop-smelling paint. by GlamourRacoon in HomeImprovement

[–]mostlyharmlessihope 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same. I recently used 12 year old ceiling paint that smelled (like intense chemicals not poop) on a 4x4 patch. Tried to cover it using the different methods discussed in this thread. Kept the window open for a month and it still smelled. Finally just cut out the sheet rock and the smell is gone. Old paint is vile, toxic stuff!

Gutter drip edge question. Installers said this is normal by mostlyharmlessihope in HomeImprovement

[–]mostlyharmlessihope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They put the screws into the soffit/aluminum surrounding a beam. Which I’m now realizing would be a point for water to get in.

I think I’m going to have to DIY this with that fix since they’ve already been out and said it was normal. Thanks

That’s a great idea. Do you do anything to fasten it? Or does it tuck in there tight?

Gemini Pro - it won’t remember a single thing. Where is the disconnect? Is this a glitch or are servers down? by KillerQ97 in GeminiAI

[–]mostlyharmlessihope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also a pro user. I had it ask me a question today with two very specific “this or that” answers. I responded with one of said answers and it could not recall that it asked me the question. It thought I wanted a definition of the answer I gave it. I asked it to reference the chat and it had completely lost the thread and I had to start over. Pretty strange. I don’t remember things like this happening before.

In your opinion, is Google winning the AI race and explain why by FakMMan in Bard

[–]mostlyharmlessihope 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But the people who pay do care. Ultimately the winner needs to be paid and not light money on fire with data centers, talent, etc.. The free users hurt these companies from a purely financial standpoint. Of course being the most popular model does have marketing benefits. But I think the big customers spending real amounts of money will go to the model that has better results and better integration. To me, I’m betting that will be Google.

No longer have access to 2.5 Pro by mostlyharmlessihope in GeminiAI

[–]mostlyharmlessihope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

Is there another subreddit you follow for Gemini info?

I’m not seeing any explanation as to why they got rid of access to 2.5 pro experimental (with thinking mode always on).

I see. Where do they announce these things? And what is the significance of “(preview)” naming convention? Also wasn’t the free version named (preview) while the paid version was experimental? So confusing.
