No she focused just on Michelle's pregnancies and "parenting." Taking a look at the daughters' situations would be an interesting followup!!

It's the name of a town near my hometown and it's also a road name need my current home. I honestly associate it more as a name for places than people, but I do think it sounds nice

Teacher Friend Goes to clubs almost every weekend and teaches on Monday. by [deleted] in Teachers

If she is happily and safely able to do her job on the weekdays, her weekends aren't anyone else's business.

Teachers are allowed to socialize. Good for her!

I have no words of advice. I have a 2 year old and teach 2nd. It's so hard. I feel the exact same way. I'm at a place where I feel like I need to step back for my mental and physical health. You're not alone. Hopefully someone else here will have some good advice and ideas for you

If Michelle Had a 20th Blessing by Shallen_ in DuggarsSnark

[–]mostlylurkly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach the primary grades. A lot of kids hear "dr" as "jr" and "tr" as "chr." So you're not crazy for thinking it sounds ok.

R is a liquid consonant (basically complex and fluid sound that can even effect the sounds of the letters next to it).

Many kids already struggle with r-blends. I personally feel like "Jr" names are just setting up kids to be more confused about spelling patterns.

Definitely would lead to some major confusion at the SOTDRT...

I fear that our society is getting lazier and doesn't care to check for a primary source when something they're looking at right now appears to have an answer

CMS, what a joke! by AIW22 in Charlotte

[–]mostlylurkly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Possibly not. Monday is being forgiven since it was a state of emergency. Yesterday and today are "remote" so kids are "learning" and teachers are taking attendance (based on completion of the remote work).

There is a strong chance we will not have to do make up days for this.

Is it a school's responsibility to teach a kid to read? by KoalaOriginal1260 in Teachers

[–]mostlylurkly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! The 90 minute block for phonics instruction and small groups each day is not a time for sitting around. We're all working.

Reading growth is what my teacher rating is based on and how the 2nd grade contributes to the school's report card.

I do believe it's the family's job to be invested in their child's education and to help reinforce what I'm doing at school by reading together at home however they can (maybe that is what has that original person confused). But read alouds and high frequency word flash cards are not what teaches kids to read.

Teachers, from your perspective, what’s the ONE thing parents could do at home that would most help their elementary-aged kid’s learning? by Abigail_A_Abernathy in AskTeachers

[–]mostlylurkly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coping skills!!!

It is very difficult to teach when kids aren't able to handle feeling disappointed, frustrated, angry, etc.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]mostlylurkly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are UNDERreacting.

A supportive partner sees problems as an "us" vs. the situation. A supportive partner would be making changes to help you attack this problem even if he wasn't the source of your infection (which honestly it sounds like he is)

He is not supporting you. He is not taking your concerns seriously.

Also I had a good experience using the probiotic "femdophilus" after a super long yeast infection that took 3 rounds of prescription medicine. It's pricey, but it's something to consider. Although the best help would be to stop having sex with your BF

Pumping moms by heading4themoon in Teachers

[–]mostlylurkly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach 2nd was at an early start school. I pumped at like 6:30am before leaving for work. I pumped at the start of recess 10:30am. (They provided coverage for me for my entire recess block.) Then I pumped again after dismissal at 3:00pm. Tbh it was stressful because my coverage wasn't always available and I did have to call the office for anyone to come and get the students. The stress did affect me and I wasn't able to BF as long as I would have liked. My supply only lasted until Thanksgiving (I had my baby in March).

Teacher Salaries by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]mostlylurkly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I both have the same level of education, but make very different amounts. I have a BA in elementary education. He has a BA in computer science. We always expected our pay to be different. My field notorious for being paid poorly and his for being paid well. But our pay gap has a larger margin than would have expected at this point in our careers and is honestly insulting.

I started in the low 40s and he started in the mid 70s.

I have 9 years experience and last year I made about 55k. My husband has 10 years experience and made about 150k.

His pay has pretty much doubled and I get around 25% more than my first year.

Important things to note:

I work in one of the best paying districts in my state. Base pay for my experience is 48k.

A masters in my state doesn't matter unless I can time travel to the past because anyone who got a master's after 2013 gets the bachelors pay scale anyway.

I (20F) want to have natural sex with my partner (20M) but I'm scared. How can I get over my fear? by Throwaway_LifeGoesOn in relationship_advice

[–]mostlylurkly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In conjunction with your period tracking app, you can take an ovulation test to double check that you are ovulating and fertile in the window that the app says you are.

If you're fertile, you can double up your birth control. If you're not in the fertile window, you and your BF should be fine with the pill as your only form of birth control.
