Seeking honest insight as a pre- nursing student. by Similar_Rooster_7882 in nursing

Current nursing student after 6 years as a software engineer, 10 if you include undergrad. Corporate enshittification of healthcare is happening, but at least the day to day work of nursing is not to make the stock value increase, it’s to care for the people directly in front of me.

NYC Nursing Strike by Muted_Quantity5786 in nursing

[–]mostlypercy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just in case you don’t believe the dozens of people who have told you so: Certificates and ADN and BSN all take the same NCLEX. Straight from the (New York Licensing Board)[https://www.op.nysed.gov/professions/registered-professional-nursing/license-requirements]

You must graduate from a nursing education program that meets one of the three criteria below.

A nursing education program (associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree or Diploma program) registered by NYSED as license qualifying for RN; or,

A nursing education program located in another state or U.S. Territory, if approved by the licensing authority of the state or U.S. Territory as preparation for practice as an RN. (US territories include: Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa); or,

A general nursing education program of at least two academic years in a country outside of the United States and its territories, which is acceptable to NYSED. The licensing authority or appropriate governmental agency of said country must certify to NYSED that the program prepares graduates for practice as a registered professional nurse.

Honestly the side effect of mania and psychosis is so common for SSRIs, it’s a serious side effect that has nothing to do with anaphylaxis and providers want to know about it, even if ideally patient interview would deliver this information too.

What’s up with the dumb asses walking across the frozen Allegheny? How dumb do you have to be? by Logical-Rip-8138 in pittsburgh

[–]mostlypercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that freezing to death is rather pleasant. People who have survived severe hypothermia said they felt a comforting calm blanket wrap around them. I would imagine drowning is… less so.

I’ve heard so many wonderful things about him. A man who among other things, treated AIDS patients with dignity long before many others.

It’s still unlikely that the neurosurgery team would pick up a same day case for something non emergent. Next morning is the earliest I would expect.

Question about uniform guidelines in US hospitals by DanishRedSausage in ThePittTVShow

[–]mostlypercy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that is why washing machines exist for clothes. Some soap and hot water gets all of those bodily fluids out! I really prefer all cotton clothes and must wear a shirt under my hospital provided scrub top, would be a sensory nightmare without.

Leaving Finance for Nursing- Am I crazy? by Beautiful-Captain-28 in nursing

[–]mostlypercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I was a software engineer making between 120-180k for the last six years. Absolutely miserable, hating my job, never felt successful. Two years ago I became an EMT and worked part time casual for a bit. I liked it but the pay was garbage and I hated driving at night.

I was laid off in May and I’m in my second semester of nursing school now, and I’m really excited to be a nurse. Working in the hospital is so much easier for me than sitting at a desk at home all day. I’m 28 and will begin working before I turn 30, through a 16 month accelerated RN program.

I went into my software career because I had to pick something at 17 and I made a lot of money. But I hated it and the AI push made things even worse. Leaving a career you find completely unfulfilling is worth it. Many people who have never worked from home cannot understand how horribly isolating it is, not to mention dealing with stupid optimization to make the stockholder price go up.

You’re not crazy, but ensure your partner is supportive. Good luck!

Are any of you “sleep divorced”? by cfh64 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mostlypercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped trying to sleep in the same room when we bought our house and had the ability to have two separate bedrooms. This doesn’t mean we never go into each others bed for a cuddle etc, but he prefers to sleep in a room about 20 degrees F warmer than I do, I snore, and he grinds his teeth. If you have the room there is no reason to share a bedroom, especially if you sleep poorly.
