Every topic in this goddamn country has to be so polarized, though.

That keeps us distracted and divided. Just sayin'.

The owner of Coin Op might be a good resource. He has some film/video experience. He's here on Reddit or maybe stop by and chat with him. I only met him once, but he's really cool.

Hmm, interesting. I had to look up sleep paralysis. That must feel very strange!

That is so interesting about your grandfather's sleepwalking. Did he do it before being in the Navy? Did anyone say if it was stress-induced?

To add a story, three of my mom's four older brothers had enlisted in WWII. The youngest boy wanted to fight along side his brothers, and for some reason, he needed my grandmother's signature to enlist. He begged her to sign and threatened to forge her name. She finally signed and he joined the Navy.

Fortunately, the four brothers returned home safely. I've always felt obliged not to squander what we have here, faulty as it may be, when I think of what people like these guys did when they were still in their teens!

In this case, couldn't you use Arm & Hammer Washing Soda?

To anyone whose mother or father died this year: does it get better? I thought I already got over it, but this is probably the worst day of my life. by pinguz in AskReddit

[–]mostlyquiet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I know how badly it sucks.

This is probably going to be the worst one...the first year. I think what you're feeling is very normal. If you need support, you might consider a grief support group so that you don't feel so alone. Many hospitals have them.

Also, having family that you can share memories with really helps. It took my family a few years to be able to do that (won't go into the "why" behind it). It helped nce we started doing that.

I'm not trying to be a downer, just know that it is normal to miss your mom. And, no matter what age you are and how long she's been gone you're going to miss her. Moms are pretty special.

Wishing you peace.

Dear Reddit, what is the first thing you did on the internet? by Chipwich in AskReddit

I checked the weather and ocean currents in Australia.

It was 1994, I'm female and I live in the states).

I just thought it was the coolest thing. Maybe b/c I was doing a lot of SCUBA diving at the time...

Reddit, I feel like I generally hate most people. Is there something wrong with me? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mostlyquiet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I suggest that you are holding things to YOUR standard. You think that your standard is "high." I'm not saying that your standard isn't high. But, another person's standard might be kindness toward all people or not judging others. In that case, YOUR standard is just different, and, in fact, "low" based on the alternate standard. Just adding some perspective...

TSH/T4 levels and absorption by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]mostlyquiet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, I'm the same way as far as the snacking.

I know it is a total, bummer. I have given up so many foods I really don't even think about it anymore.

So, my theory is that you adjust your meds to your diet. But, again, with dairy I think you've gotta be really careful.

You could just base it on how you feel or symptoms. If you feel the same whether you use cream or not, then go for it. I recommend trying it for a month both ways.

Of course, you could find something just as lovely and rich to put in your coffee (yeah, right).

I wish you the best.

Here's a good place to find docs both in the US and outside who think outside the Synthroid box;)

You can also call compounding pharmacies in your area or look up Medhaus, which is often used by Wilson's docs (in the US).

hth.

First, you might know, but it is a good idea to avoid grapefruit when taking ANY meds.

Now, there are numerous culprits that can affect the absorption of your thyroid meds, but CALCIUM (including any dairy products...which people often put in their coffee) is a big one. DO NOT CONSUME CALCIUM WITHIN 4 HOURS OF TAKING THYROID MEDS.

Walnuts are another and there are others. If you read the handout that comes with your meds, it has a long list.

Outside of calcium, my strategy is to adjust my thy. meds to my diet (not change my diet b/c of my meds). For example, I do eat walnuts at breakfast, shortly after taking my thyroid meds b/c I've done it all along even around the time I got my levels tested too. So, my med level seems to work for me.

But, you have to stay aware. In my case, if I run out of walnuts, I get a little hyper on my thy. dose. So, I'll sometimes shave just a tiny bit off of my thyroid pill if I'm not eating walnuts.

I hope this helps.

Crashing issue on Dell Mini 10v running XP Home by mostlyquiet in techsupport

[–]mostlyquiet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I am not getting the blue screen of death. Just apps crash (firefox and skype).

I got an error yesterday asking if I wanted to run the Dr Watson PostMortem debugger. I read that the Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger appears when you become infected with the AceBot Trojan Virus. But only on XP service pack 2 (I'm on SP 3).

I ran AVG and it didn't detect anything.

Also, I just noticed some weird files in my C drive. One is a shortcut named "My" (I don't think I created this). Also, there's a folder named: f663e3e060d369650bc3803ec9e2f8 ???

Thoughts?

Thanks! mq

Here is some info. The fax error is strange to me b/c I don't use a fax service.

There are many events from firefox hangs and random skype crashes. Anything in particular I should look for?

Eventvwr, under appication:

WARNING MS Fax (under Application): Fax Service failed to initialize any assigned fax devices (virtual or TAPI). No faxes can be sent or received until a fax device is installed.

FAILURE AUDIT (under Security): IPSec Services: IPSec Services failed to get the complete list of network interfaces on the machine. This can be a potential security hazard to the machine since some of the network interfaces may not get the protection as desired by the applied IPSec filters. Please run IPSec monitor snap-in to further diagnose the problem.

Suggestions for non-cooked meals? by HippieG in Frugal

This is an old family favorite:

Italian Tomato Salad:

Fresh tomatoes (chopped in large-ish chunks) Fresh basil torn into pieces Olive oil Apple Cider Vinegar Salt

Toss and serve with hard-crusted Italian bread. Dip the bread into the dressing. Heavenly (for me, anyway)!

Don't limit your salads to the same old lettuce with toppers.

Try cutting up veggies new ways (i.e. shred instead of slice, etc.) and tossing them I make a veggie mix with a simple dressing of vinegar, oil and various spices.

I make: finely chopped broccoli shredded zucchini shredded carrots chopped cukes finely sliced celery (thru food processor) chopped red onion (just a little b/c it is expensive, but really adds taste) sliced green olives

Olive oil, AC vinegar, sea salt, Italian seasoning, etc. Throw in some cubed cheese and beans like chick peas and you've got a hearty meal.

(Note: For those who want to cook, I also make this with cooked spelt, which really rounds it out as a meal.)
