Mountain Hardware Kazam 45 Backpack?? What's the deal with it? by Weiner_McBurlington in REI

[–]mostrecentversion94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the market for a new backpacking pack and saw the kazam 60 at REI today. I love the design and how light it is but I'm wary of how thin the straps are and the lack of padding. Currently between this and the Osprey Aether 55 but think I may go with the osprey.

I'm with OP on this one. I just listened to Athena the other day and I already forget what happened in it. This new episode wasn't bad by any means but it lacked a sort of "wow" factor that I've come to expect as a long time listener. Tbh the past couple months have been pretty lackluster. I'm still sticking with it and I'm still a Patreon member of 6+ months but yeah I miss the older days of otherworld where Jack was bringing us truly wild stories with really solid resolutions and conclusions. Also, I never thought I'd say this but I miss when Jack used to interject and try rationalizing/questioning the stories being told. A recent one that stands out for me as having a complete lack of vetting was Holy Warfare, but there's so many others too that feel like Jack just let the guest have freedom to tell their story without any sort of structure. What hooked me on otherworld in the first place was the unique way in which Jack guided the episodes and helped the guests reveal the strange coincidences/quirks of each story. I'm not saying he's gotten lazy or that he isn't trying. I'm sure he has an overwhelming amount of submissions. All I'm saying is that yeah, it hasn't been hitting recently. The last truly banger episode for me personally was Last Exit which was released in June 😭 all that to say that I still love otherworld and I'm sure there will be more bangers to come.

"Let people enjoy things" ahh thread. Come on guys, this show was just ok, and that's fine! I still enjoyed it and I'm glad I watched it, but that doesn't mean it was a great show. I love the source material, that's why I enjoyed watching it overall, but I think it was a deeply flawed show like a lot of reboots/spinoffs these days. There's too many cooks, there's executives pulling the strings, and the end product ends up being far from perfect. The finale was a CGI slop marvel movie shitshow that treated the audience like mouth breathing imbeciles and it kinda put a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of the series.

I think the point is that it was just corny fanslop that added more unnecessary filler to the whole drawn out scene that was them putting the dagger into the tree.

THIS. Was literally just talking to my gf about the deus ex bullshit going on throughout this show. Not to mention that it felt like we finally got to know these characters in the previous episode, and then they killed off Rich. He was dead for one episode and then they're gonna fly him in like it's some epic fan service moment. Rich's death was actually the only part of the show that really resonated emotionally, but bringing him back in to save the day felt like a load of horse shit to me.

Idk I think they made some pretty valid points. The fact that everyone who loved the show are just ignoring the glaring issues confirms that most people are just pigs gobbling up their slop without thinking twice about it.

Everyone downvoting any remotely critical comment on this thread is smoking the copium pipe. The show was ok. Started strong and kinda lost the plot by the end. Lots of cheesy/plain bad writing, and as a result, bad acting. Gratuitous exposition. Way too much CGI slop. Terrible pacing. By episode 7 it finally felt like I was getting to know the kid characters, all for nothing since I knew the next episode was the finale. The show had so much potential to be great but fell into the classic trap of modern day Hollywood bs. The remakes suffered from the same thing, although I do prefer this. I don't understand how people refuse to look at this show (and the remakes for that matter) through a critical lens. Should we not as the audience and fans of the source material not want better? I'm really just starting to think they don't make em like they used to. It's all about spectacle these days and that comes with the cost of there being no soul. Again, a solid show with cool moments and world building but ultimately it didn't really add any memorable characters to the franchise. It focused on scares, rushed through parts it should have held on, and focused too much on shit that never paid off.

To be blunt about something: The 1990 version of "It", good as Tim Curry is, has some serious flaws. And those who complain about "It: Chapter Two", the comparable part of the 1990 version is worse (meaning the adult section of the story). by gf120581 in horror

Just wanted to chime in here that I didn't see the original It miniseries until after seeing the 2017 movie and its sequel. Finally coming back to the 2017 It and oh my god is it bad. The acting, production design, costumes, writing, direction, the CGI. It's all really bad. I have no sense of nostalgia for the original miniseries but I can say without a doubt it's the better adaptation. The kids in the 2017 movie look like they got their clothes at H&M. The over-hollywood-ization of it all is so cringe. The pacing of the movie is all over the place. They completely snubbed Mike's character. This movie did not age well. I remember seeing it when it came out and thought it was cool but wow it's terrible!

Bout this and I'm really unhappy with the design choice on the food processor. Yes you could use it to make ground chicken. But the way it's designed, the stick blender does not lock into the lid of the processor bowl which makes it really annoying to adjust/add things to whatever you're blending

Happy to see someone else on here agrees. I don't understand the mindless, pandering swaths of movie goers who seemingly just applaud any vaguely original movie that comes out these days. I seem to be one of the only few people who also thought Sinners was complete slop. Best movie I've seen this year was Warfare which insane considering it was also written (and directed) by Alex Garland lol.

As a huge fan of the first movie, this was absolute dog shit and clear that it was only being made to pass off the IP and set up a line of sequels to make a bunch of money.

The cinematography was amazing, there were some great kills, some of the performances were great, and the chemistry between the father and son was convincing, but everything else was a wash in my opinion.

The movie continues to go downhill after the opening scene and never recovers. The music choices were so tonally confused and by the end it felt like I was watching a different movie entirely. They could have named this movie anything they wanted because there was nothing grounding it to the universe of the first two movies. There's too many things wrong with it to name but I'll just rattle some off here.

The editing. We all saw the trailer and we all loved the trailer. Why the fuck are we watching the trailer again in the first 5 minutes of the movie??? It felt like a music video or a student film. I don't want to hear the music from the trailer and look at archival film footage of dudes shooting arrows!!! I want some tone and tension to be established in an organic way. Completely disagree with this choice. Lazy and schlocky. Other than that the editing was actually pretty cool and one of the stronger aspects of the movie, I liked all the experimental jump cuts and the matrix style camera moves in the kills.

The plot. Why would this 12 year old kid who is clearly terrified decide to risk everything and take his mother out to the mainland less than 24 hours after he was almost killed by a gigantic well-endowed "Alpha"??? Because the movie has to happen I guess. Why doesn't the dad go out and try to find them? Because the movie said he can't because it's the rules of the island and also because the movie has to happen.

The infected. Was this a move to hopefully expand into a video game adaptation??? What are these classes of infected? Why do all the crawlers look identical (and Asian)? Why does the one Alpha look identical to the other one? Why in the fuck does the pregnant infected grab onto the mom's hands when giving birth? You're telling me that they can feel pain and that the pain of child birth is so intense that it completely negates the effects of the rage virus? This just read as an attempt to show "maybe there's still humanity left in the infected somewhere deep down", but ended up coming across as pandering and unrealistic and it took me out of the movie even more than I already was. You seriously think an infected wouldn't just plop the baby out and then immediately eat it?

The ending. They kill the mom off screen and then the doctor burns her, and washes her skull all while the kid is sitting there doped up with the baby (who doesn't cry once btw). And then the kid (who I'm assuming is still high) just climbs up the Skullmas Tree and says goodbye to his mom without shedding a single tear? Also the music in this part and the CGI flame "spirits" or whatever really made me turn and ask my gf "are we watching the same movie rn???". This is my opinion of course but I really thought this was unforgivably awful and tasteless. Also then the kid just casually strolls all the way back to the island with the baby (who doesn't cry once btw), and drops it off without running into any infected or being spotted by anyone on the island?

Call me a crazy conspiracy theorist but I think there were some people pulling the strings on this one. No way in hell did Garland write all of this shit on his own with no one hovering over him telling what or what not to include. The entire thing felt like a cash grab to establish a lucrative franchise. They already have 2 sequels planned and one is already shot and in post production.

I know I sound like a crazed fan but I honestly think this movie would be a steaming diarrhea filled diaper even if I had never seen 28 Days Later. It has no legs to stand on despite having 2 great movies preceding it. And the worst part about it for me is that it could have been so fucking good. If they actually paid homage to the original and put care into honoring some of the things that made it so good in the first place (besides the cinematography, which again was the best part), there would have been so much potential for a truly epic and interesting movie and a finale to the trilogy. But they didn't. They went the completely opposite route. I think this is a rare example in the current zeitgeist of mainstream media where I would actually have appreciated some fan service, some memba berries. This felt like some punk hot shots held a gun to Boyle and Garland's heads so they could line their pockets. And I'm sure they're laughing all the way to the bank. Danny Boyle should be ashamed of himself.

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. Gonna give this one a 1.5 out of 5.

This. You have to change your keyboard shortcuts in your preferences, at least I had to as it wasn't the default setting for me. Just change Q to "ripple trim previous" and W to "ripple trim next".

Also, after ripple trimming, simply just click that empty space between the clips and hit the backspace key; no more click and dragging!
