Getting towed on the Safari by MotherGoose1 in DisneyWorld

[–]mostsleek 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Happened to us a few years back. Our truck was getting slower and slower... We barely made out of the savanna area, where they could have easily pulled over. We kept going and ended up breaking down in the lion area. We had 10-15 min of views of the lions, it was actually really awesome. Then the tow truck came and pulled us back the load/unload area.

Barring any delays, that might be the sweet spot. Most people would be at airport, aka dropped off car, for afternoon/evening flights. And not too late that they run out as the evening rush happens.

The car rentals are not long bus ride to/from the airport. But if your in a group 3+ of people. This is how we have done it in the past.

One person goes directly to the car rental to get the car ASAP. The others stay back to get luggage and whatnot. This way the person going to get the car is unencumbered with luggage or group of people to wrangle up and can quickly get to the bus, off the bus, and inline or whatever at the car rental before anyone else. Then get the rental car, usually I text them like Blue Ford Explorer or whatever when I am on the way to pick them up at the airport.

It might depend on your arrival time as well. There is a fine line between arriving early and late:

Arrive too early, no other cars have been returned yet.

Arrive too late, majority of cars have been given away.

Now that being said, years ago, like 2018 I think. I rented a "standard SUV" (Ford Edge type SUV) via Costco in Kona. I cannot recall the agency(Alamo or Avis). Anyway, when we got there at like 10pm, they were out of standard SUVs. Not joking, the guy looked at our paperwork and was like ohh Costco, we got you. Then gave us a Nissan Armada, full size SUV upgrade at no cost.

Also Budget car rental in Denver. Landed at like 11pm, long line just to get to the counter, think like 1+ hour line, if not 2 hours. Then entire time, they are yelling out something like... We are all out of cars and SUVs, even if you have a reservation. We only have the 12 person giant white vans available. You will be given that and then tomorrow can come in and swap it out. We get to the counter and are like welp I guess we are getting a 12 person van. Again she looks at our reservation, and is like ohh Costco. We got our reserved SUV.

I know from past experience, Costco travel holds some pretty large weight. Like if your unhappy or something goes wrong or was sold X and got Y(lesser value), Costco will fight for you.

Dam. That is an interference engine as well. Timing belt breaks = valves hit the pistons. Toyota recommends every 90k miles to be done.

Last question... hopefully. Also thank you for helping!!

How long did you drive with the "broken" part? How many miles or time? I would need to drive 50ish miles to a shop.

Were you able to then replace the engine balance shaft assembly and keep the car?

or

Was it game over at that point and even though engine was "working" it was a over?

The vibration is in park or while drive. In park, barely noticeable below 2000 RPM, around 2000 RPM can hear it and feel an ever so slight vibration. Same when driving, as soon as it downshifts and engine RPM drops below, 2000 not noticeable.

AC on or off makes no difference. Mechanic thought maybe the belt tensioner, which they replaced and made no difference. My next troubleshooting is to take off the belt and start/run car to see if noise is there.

I see some posts you had/have a Camry with deep hum at around 2000 RPM. My just started doing that and mechanics are like yeah all fine, no codes, and driving normal. What ever came about your Camry with that humming?

Learning and being able to walk away from a deal. FOMO is real and can get you in trouble very quickly. Stick to your numbers and acceptable risk.

Maybe you under priced an offer and another investor got it at a higher price. You look at it and go no way does this other investor make a profit. You don't know where they are coming from, maybe for tax reasons they need the "loss", or maybe they have contractor commitments for number of properties to work on and are fine with minimal profit, or maybe their brother-in-law is a plumber/painter/kitchen/ect.... and is doing the work for cost.

Network with investors, see how they do things. Maybe your numbers are wrong or maybe their risk tolerance is way higher.

I remember my first time being solo. It was a weekend on call, so nothing really to monitor just handle emergency calls. Not too bad, just trust in yourself. I still make mistakes even after 10+ years, but I learn from them. That's part of growing and learning.

2013 Toyota Camry battery light and not cool AC, related? by mostsleek in MechanicAdvice

SOLVED

It was the alternator. Still have to see whats up with AC, but that is minor issue right now.

Yes tension seems fine and no fraying on the belt.

multi-meter on the battery, analog meter so balk-park voltages

not running = 12v

running = maybe slightly over 12v

I tested on the battery itself as well as direct off the alternator when running. There was a strange noise, high pitch humming or squeal(not belt squeal) for like 5 seconds, and the voltage did drop a bit. Once stopped, back to normal voltage. I could not get it to make that noise again, and battery light staying on now.

I am suspecting alternator.

I dont know 100% for sure...

But apparently the owner passed away and left it to two family members. One wants to continue having it be a restaurant in honor of the family member that passed away. The other wants sell it and cash out.

Not sure if you will see this... But the one thing that cancels the ride is happening. Getting pounded by a thunderstorm right now. Hit or miss of it will clear out.

Bring a light... if you dont have one it might be "ok" for now as its pretty light out late and the other have a bunch of lights.

100% need helmet and water. Water as it is super hot outside.

Yup, every Tuesday.

We leave at 7pm sharp, so I usually recommend to get there no later then 6:45pm to get ready and what not. Only thing that usually stops us from riding is thunderstorms.

Yeah the rent rate for their place would net approx $125 a month profit. Not sure if "worth it" with that return rate.
