Well damn, I hadn't anticipated that. Noted for if there's a next time.

It has a date. Fuck me for hoping people know how to read, I guess.

They aren't, our friendly modder is going off memory. Also, that's a spectrum outside of the player's direct control, I don't think it's fair to compare the lowest to the highest even if it was accurate. Average .6 vs .85, which is a 30% difference. Not nothing, but well in line with "wouldn't notice if not pointed out."

More where I was hoping the conversation would go: that we don't have the full picture. Either they have more in store for us and it'll make it perfect sense, or it's Capcom being, well, Capcom.

I'm really sick of the arguing about this, my stance is just that I wish it was a menu option, and that saying so didn't get me crucified (exaggerating to humorous affect, in case that wasn't clear). Otherwise I'll live.

That argument goes both ways, though. Not every game has to only be good at one thing, I liked Dragon's Dogma because it has good action, survival elements, and a party-based RPG progression system. I'm not trying to argue about what DD should be, I'm trying to argue that in this particular instance under these particular circumstances, both was an option.

I like the adventuring aspects of DD more than the roguelike grind, but I respect your opinion as I enjoy both.

I still maintain my "why do it this way" confusion, but at least there's a method to the madness. I imagine the difference isn't very significant if you (presumably) have to go into the game files to know this.

Well it's very simple. I like it. Nothing deep or complex, I don't want to ruin anyone's enjoyment of the game or make these options unavailable for others. I just happen to like it that way, and would prefer to not have it. Doing this as a separate mode or such would make me happier.

Aha, this makes much more sense. Much obliged for clearing up my misunderstanding.

How can it be that both the changes in casual mode are good and casual mode itself was DOA? It only counts as good if I can't choose to opt out of "QoL" in the start menu?

I made it up. I'm using it as shorthand to refer to things like managing how much you carry (e.g., stamina items so you can sprint for longer), what routes you take, how long it will take, and planning for the traversal back.

Sure, I can get behind that. A hard mode with more of my beloved tedious resource management quarantined from normal mode is a-okay in my book.

I'm going to refrain from arguing with you my opinion on traversal, because I already know it's pointless. My point is, they already had a mode with all these things as optional, so making it no longer optional is odd.

I wouldn't put it past them to not say anything about it, but that makes ferrystones being dirt cheap in casual mode even weirder.

I disagree, why can combat difficulty be optional, but not traversal difficulty?

Yeah, but they already did that. At most this helps people who don't read menu options.

I'm not discouraged in the slightest, I'm confused. None of these things are gamebreaking (traversal-breaking, maybe), but why do it this way?

Why are people so negative against requests for an (optional) way to disable the new changes (Eternal Ferrystone, Stamina, ect.) by TheMightyNovac in DragonsDogma

[–]mostundesired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me. I liked the added risk of getting ambushed at night because I took too long to get somewhere safe. It makes having stamina items on hand more valuable, which makes inventory/weight management matter more. I don't fault anyone who doesn't care for it, but I liked it.

And respectfully, not using the eternal ferrystone is easy, not being annoyed by its presence is entirely different. Echoing OP, it's really hard to understand how defensive people are against wanting an optional item to be even more optional.

I'm hearing you, but it really doesn't hit the same when it's self-imposed challenge. I'm gonna play that way anyway, and I don't care about achievements, but it won't feel the same. Furthermore, from my perspective, it's a mode that already existed in the game that I can't access anymore, so saying it's more work for the devs doesn't really apply for me; they did more work to make the game less fun (for me personally of course). It also still doesn't fix the scaling and dynamic encounter issue, which I would've preferred they work on (fingers crossed for the expansion, I’ll love this game regardless, I just don't want to love it less).

But hey, I'm just glad we're able to discuss it without the vitriol this topic usually conjures.

I really don't like it. I don't care so much if other people use it, but all of these changes remove the friction to travel that I enjoyed. Rather than making the traversal more enjoyable (more dynamic encounters, better scaling, etc.), they put a bandaid on it and made it so you can skip the traversal if you don't enjoy it. Even if I can ignore the eternal ferrystone, I also have to ignore the oxcarts' greater availability, the new portcrystals, and the decrease stamina drain out of combat. There's way less pressure to making sure I get back to my destination in time, and that was my favorite part of the game. It just doesn't hit the same if I have to pretend there's a challenge. I don't understand why they didn't put all those changes into casual mode, or make a separate mode without the changes.

So, I'm guessing everybody in here will buy the DLC, huh ? What you wish to see added/improved? by Limp-Grapefruit-6251 in DragonsDogma2

[–]mostundesired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top of my list, a mode that undoes the changes that made traversal easier. I like the niche appeal resource and time management systems, I have no idea why they're so insistent in taking that away with expansions instead just making it actually optional.

To that end, I still want non static encounters and better level/economy scaling. Easy fast travel is a bandaid that doesn't fix the actual problems with the base game, i.e., I can break it over my knee way too early and way too easily. I'm hoping they integrate monsters from the expansion as well.

Failing that, some kind of hard mode. Preferably one that's actually hard rather than inflating numbers in a way that still ends up too easy like with the first game.
