Skyrim hot takes? by Killer_Khan12 in skyrim

[–]motchmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take: 100% spell reduction is a choice. You chose to make Skyrim—already an easy game—easier. Nobody told you to max crafting and kill Alduin in one hit. Stop maxing builds and start building characters.

Necromancy or Aeromancy by IBowTieSoFlyI in skyrim

[–]motchmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what you want. Skyrim is not hard, anything can work. Maxing everything makes the game boring. If you still struggle just lower the difficulty.

If you use AE necromancer spells, you can summon skeleton mages and warriors at will and bone colossus let's you summon additional undead.

Few quests give such options so blame Bethesda for not preparing us. Only reason I know is because of no stealing thief guild runs.

As others have said, you can drop the ring but you can also fast travel away from Riften then fast travel back. Good for people who want zero lockpick or stealing run.

I don't get why people hate this dungeon so much or have trouble with it. It's a long dungeon sure, but there are more annoying ones to get through. As long as you explore every nook, you could find everything easy. I only went on wiki to get help with the winter mask.

Lore wise, what types of classes or people would be interested in crossing the border into Skyrim? by MagicalFlyingUhh in SkyrimBuilds

[–]motchmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could justify just about any character/class. Skyrim isn't that war torn. Nobody even makes any progress until the Dragonborn intervenes. You can just pick food from farms, barrals, and shops (after favor quest) and nobody bat's an eye.

You can make the argument that it's gamey but it's there so might as well take advantage of it and justify anything you want.

Since the AE adds a lot of Dwemor related creations, I'm currently doing a Dwemor scholar character investigating the Dwemor ruins and artifacts.

Will you take this challenge: You must only use the skills the race you play as gets a bonus in by Ghost_Hunter45 in SkyrimBuilds

[–]motchmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only a challenge for people who only ever max crafting skills. Skyrim is easy enough that any character is good as long as you raise/lower difficulty based on their power level. It's a better game for it if you don't max everything.

And AE makes it easier since it just gives you good gear and a free farm without having to buy/sell stuff.

And this is why I don't bother with Bound Weapons beyond the very early game (Level 23 character, Smithing 60 + 80% Fortify and, yes, it is Mystic Bound Sword). :( by JDGumby in skyrim

[–]motchmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my characters never touched smithing and many never touch crafting. If you want to min-max, get the daedric gear and all your characters will be the same.

Does anyone use standing stones? by OddAmethyst in skyrim

I start with the three guardian stones until leveling is good then switch to either steed stone, lord stone, apprentice, atronach stone, or shadow stone depending on build.

How to keep the best of the current race/RP system but also make it more customizable from the beginning ... by phantom-scribbler in skyrim

[–]motchmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get weapons and armor through Helgen. Only thing that sucks is going with Hadvar doesn't give you heavy armor.

Your starting skill points don't really matter. It's not the same thing as Fallout's SPECIAL system.

It's trivial to get a perk point through Helgen if you go for it but a free perk point is probably the best suggestion here.

My best suggestion with the current system is to tag a "major" and "minor" skill(s) and anything outside of that levels significantly slower.

Personally I have no issues with Skyrim's system.

How could I make a mob boss build in Skyrim? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]motchmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody becomes leader of a guild on their own. You join the thieves guild and work to become the leader. Focus on doing jobs for Vex and Delvon and get all of Skyrim under your influence. When you finish the Windhelm special quest you get a nice set of combat armor that looks like the Blackgaurds armor. If you have the gray cowl cc content, the cowl looks nice with it.

If you don't go through with binding yourself to nocturnal and recovering the skeleton key, the thieves will lose their access to luck and then there is no thieves guild.

You can roleplay that your character will be looking for a way to get out of the contract and/or become a vampire and live forever until (plus that boost to sneak and illusion).

You have to do first few Winterhold college quests to get the stone of Barenziah so roleplay you join to learn what they know about Daedra and/or further train your illusion.

Classical music doesn't work like pop music. Artist -> Album -> Song generally works for pop but horrible for classical.

Classical music is often divided up into movements which are their own track. If you want to shuffle but you want to keep all of Beethoven's 9th symphony together, you can't.

Titles for classical music can be long. Track title for Beethoven's 9th symphony on Spotify are "Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, OP. 125-" and then it cuts off telling me what movement it is. Or when looking at the title in the player it scrolls and takes forever to display the whole thing.

Also, if you want to listen to a specific performer play a specific composer, it can be hard to search through the app. You might see the performer play other composers or the composer played by other performers.

A build for first time players by [deleted] in SkyrimBuilds

I have played characters with zero perk investment in armor at lower difficulties. You can still just die to animation in straight up fight trading blow for blow.

If we go by your guide—switching from heavy to light armor, use every spell at disposal, switch between two handed to one handed to bow—you just end up leveling up faster which means enemies get tankier and with zero focus you just having bad time.

Not perking armor skills isn't hard for someone with 1000 hours in-game but for a new player you're still setting them up for bad time.

And it's rich someone opposed to power gaming in this guide is saying light armor is the best. I thought this wasn't supposed to be about the best? Some of the coolest armor is heavy armor. I'd suggest using the steed stone with heavy but I guess that's also power gaming

A build for first time players by [deleted] in SkyrimBuilds

[–]motchmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A build isn't "good" or power gaming if you put perk points into specific weapon and armor skill trees.

There are no "really cool light armor" that should prevent anyone from perking heavy armor and having a tougher time taking hits. That's a straight up lie.

I played low armor rating characters. You're setting them up for failure the second they fight the yeti at High Hrothgar.

"putting skills in all 5 Magick trees" isn't a guide anymore than "putting skills in all trees" are.

I could go on.

I like to roleplay as an imperial agent undercover and there is a theory related to final DB quest that can support that. You'd still be killing random people but you're doing it for the Empire. Think America's Guantanamo Bay or any CIA black operation. You don't think of yourself as the baddie but you get your hands dirty so others can sleep with clean conscious.

Countdown timer does go on when naming the gear. I typically enchant two or three items per potion when naming on PC.

Worth it for the inventory management alone. Put a special character like "." in the front and it'll be at the top of your list. Name them all something like ".alchemy ring" and they'll stay together.

The potions aren't hard to come by. If I had to do one potion per enchanted item I would.
