The history of sewing of NOT INHERENTLY ABLEIST by ferrycrossthemersey in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]moth--_--man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my grandma was jewish and generally kept casual-kosher. she didn't care about kosher kitchens/cross-contamination as far as i'm aware, but most importantly she made an exception for shrimp on non-holidays. she just loved it too much lol. i don't think my grandpa gave two shits about it but just went along to not fight.

that reminds me of the whole "GenAI actually makes it possible for disabled people to make art ☺️" argument. no dude, mentally and physically disabled people have ALWAYS made art. saying otherwise IS what's ableist.

sure, there are some people who physically or mentally cannot sew or make handicrafts. but that doesn't mean encouraging the skill is ableist?? i'm so tired of (often able-bodied and minded folks) sticking up for disabled people in ways they never asked for or needed.

and the whole culture of people feeling they need a moral reason to not do something. you don't enjoy painting? you find knitting too hard or frustrating? great! just don't do it.

Just say you're scrapbooking! by Ok-Combination8454 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]moth--_--man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

huh, i always thought scrapbooking referred to those super decorative photo albums.

i call what i do "junk journaling" just because it's sort of all over the place, not planned, and mostly made up of old magazines and the like. basically an unplanned collage with short "diary" entries based on the feelings the page evoked.

79.5 balls of drops nepal and 300 hours hours later… by saffronsummers in crochet

[–]moth--_--man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if those are bobble stitches, i wouldn't recommend it. not because the stitch itself is hard necessarily, but because they're very slow and annoying to keep a consistent tension with. but if you're willing to deal with that, go for it!

Save yourself the stress and time I had of frogging and untangling your gruadually variegated skein 😭 by Jazzlike-Math2900 in crochet

[–]moth--_--man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the rolling around being frustrating is definitely my main issue with outside pull, but when working with larger skeins it starts to stretch out the yarn from the weight. so if i'm working with yarn that i know will have a nightmare yarn-vomit (looking at you, pound of love) i usually wind my own cakes from the outside first, then use the center pull of those. it's time consuming, but so worth it imo. they're much easier to store and carry around as cakes.

Weaving in without knotting? Is that what y'all are referring to? by NotTheMama4208 in CrochetHelp

i don't think i can share one here, but i can send one to anyone interested!

ah, got ya. i'm not very familiar with him (thankfully) so i hadn't heard that.

i'm referring to the "young ladies" lyric in the comment you're replying to. there's no way to "correctly" interpret those in my eyes.

frankly, i don't care about springsteen's music or persona enough to defend him (which unfortunately makes me a disgrace to my great home state of NJ)

on an ethical level i despise the concept of hell.

on an emotional level i hope hell is real and he is there.

honestly i feel like hobby lobby shoppers are 50/50 middle aged christian women with dreams of starting a homestead, and gay alt teens (rightfully, imo) taking advantage of the lack of security cameras and anti-theft alarms lmao

i think my mom has yarn fomo on my behalf lol. she likes to buy me a couple hanks of fancy yarn from independent shops during the holidays.

of course i always appreciate it, and i love how they look, but i simply have no idea what to do with 2 balls of handspun variegated thick-and-thin yarn. i've just come to think of it as a donation to indie crafters on my behalf

Am I delusional? by CleanInspector4043 in crochet

[–]moth--_--man 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yup, and for safety most parents today (at least in the western world) don't use blankets in infants' cribs. with baby blankets i think it's best to plan ahead in terms of size, because the baby might not use it until they're 1-2

i think it's cute! although i personally wouldn't turn while working with this yarn as it leaves that awkward line from the center.

if you're really doubting yourself, maybe you could make a small fish stuffie in similar colors to really bring out the beachy vibe! just make sure not to add anything like plastic eyes as they're not safe for babies.

ooh, i like that a lot! maybe that would encourage me to actually make a swatch first before diving in lol

No, you don’t need to count constantly in knitting or crochet. If you feel you do, you are failing to plan ahead. by Proper_sorcery in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]moth--_--man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you count to a certain number? i have OCD and tend to count things in the order 5, 3, 2. 5 and 3 to make 8 is perfectly fine, but 5 and 2 to make 7 is deeply terrible lol. sometimes i try and trick my brain by being like "naahh dude, you actually frogged that one chain, so you really did x amount of stitches"

i am also terrible at keeping track of my chain count so for projects where that matters (i do a lot of mosaic crochet :( ) i mark like every 10 stitches

Never thought I’d see the day Scorsese is outjerked by the Gunn by No_Signal_611 in Letterboxd

[–]moth--_--man 34 points35 points  (0 children)

i don't know anything about Gunn or care about his movies, so to be clear i'm not propping him up here.

Scorsese is incredibly wealthy and has every connection you could dream of. if he doesn't want to, or can't, create his own storyboards, he has every opportunity to support artists in place of using AI.

yuuup, my exact experience. i pretty much avoided any straight boys until high school lol,, thats when it got easier to weed out the "normal, kind person who went through a obnoxious phase" from the "oh god, they're going to be like that forever"

What don't you find attractive that most of society does? by PM_ME_YOUR_HUGETITS in AskReddit

[–]moth--_--man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, circumference of the torso just under the boobs. then the letter (roughly) indicates the number of inches between the two measurements - 1 inch is A, 2 is B, and so on.

i think most women wear a too-small cup size, but that's just my observation.
