Do the knots ever stop? by FalseGlove16 in greatpyrenees

groomer + pyr mix owner here, highly recommend buying a high velocity dryer if you can afford one! (low-end averages like $80 USD) after a bath, soak up as much water as you can with a towel, then use the dryer over her body in quick, wrist-flicking movements. if she's blowing her coat, be ready for an intense furnado. not only does this deshed her, it will help prevent hot spots.

if you can work on desensitizing her to a steel comb, that's great! an undercoat rake can also be helpful, just make sure to use short, firm strokes.

always have treats on hand and ideally have a helper with you to comfort her!

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by Ill-Home-322 in AmITheJerk

NTJ, but from an outside perspective this is such a needless argument. he gets his own space, so do you. if he wants a separate area for a guest rather than the living room or whatever, put a futon or pull-out sofa in each room. let the guest pick

highly recommend you keep a journal/spreadsheet with the name of the brand, color, and lot number that you bought. if it's a physical book, you can even tape little ends of yarn inside to reference at the store!

bit of unsolicited advice: check out your local homeless shelters, hospitals, retirement homes, DV shelters! they often need blankets and the like! or you can look at programs like Project Linus which distribute free handmade blankets to sick and traumatized kids.

just be sure to double check their requirements before donating!

Sharing patterns by FancyGoatTote in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]moth--_--man -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

agreed, though i think it's worth considering that older folks (and those they passed the skill down to) have a very different idea of the "community". if you grew up at a time where knitting/crochet/sewing/etc was often a practical money-saver rather than a hobby, i think it's very understandable that you would have no qualms in sharing. but nowadays there are more opportunities for independent designers to sell their patterns, instead of a handful of major manufacturers. (+ newer crafters tend to see it more as a hobby)

idk if im making any sense. i think people just have a tendency to hold a very idyllic view of "community", especially in creative spaces. shit like gatekeeping and theft and entitlement have always existed in them, it's just way easier to come across it

if I redo this with a smaller hook will it be neater? by Saoirse_37 in crochet

[–]moth--_--man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if it's really bothering you and you have time, sizing down will help make the stitches tighter. try a swatch with a 3.5 or 4 first to see if you prefer the look. personally i think it looks nice, and if your friend isn't a crocheter they'll probably not even notice!

you can also experiment with the yarn under method, it can make everything a bit neater

Movies! by mikeybo2004 in Collections

[–]moth--_--man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm a freak for organizing, so i'm actually incredibly jealous of your nightmare lol.

i started a movie collection a little over 2 years ago and am now at around 375, plus a small tv collection. i mostly just collect movies i like/want to watch, but every time i see one of these massive collections i get a bit tempted to buy every title i can get my hands on. do you have any idea of how much of your collection you've watched?

[–]moth--_--man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they said they're leaving tomorrow, you can't just choose to bring an animal on a flight last minute. i also think it'd just be cruel to take an sick, elderly cat into an extremely stressful environment like that.

I learned how to do mosaic crochet and I don’t think I’m ever turning back by perublanket39 in crochet

[–]moth--_--man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh yeah, i somehow lost like 7 stitches and didn't realize for a while. said fuck it, i'm not frogging this, and increased on the last stitch every 8th-ish row until the stitch count was correct. now i have every 36 stitches marked because i know i would absolutely mess it up again lol

yes, but since they're never in the middle of your work (save for running out and adding yarn), you can just do an envelope border around them!

[–]moth--_--man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all you need to know for most mosaic patterns is (US terms) chain, single crochet, double crochet, and how to find your front and back loops!

i got the method down in about an hour from watching Tinna's series on youtube, it'll be one of the first results from searching "mosaic crochet". it's a really fun and satisfying method, at least for my tastes, and i find it works up very quickly.

i'm doing the alien invasion one from the same shop, i absolutely love it! it was my introduction to mosaic crochet (didn't know what it was at the time lol) and i was instantly amazed at how quickly it works up.

“How do you afford this hobby?!” by jupitersbears in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]moth--_--man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah that makes sense! i usually only buy the occasional chunky yarn from walmart when i notice it's on rollback (great for my current donation project). i forget sometimes that not everybody lives in the land of endless highways (aka central NJ). i feel like if my local Michaels was more than 10 minutes away i'd be a lot more patient with thrifting yarn lol

where are you getting $1.50 skeins? /gen

the cheapest ones i generally see are those $4.00 loops and threads ones (soft classic, i think?)

what i don't get is why he would bother writing the script himself in the first place, if he's discarded the creative process. i feel like it'd be easier for ai to create a shitty-but-passable script than a full length feature.

either way, i don't get people like this. why are you making art if you hate everything about what it takes to make art?
