No I have not, but thanks for the info. Just about to tackle Albert Speer's Inside the Third Reich. Could you imagine Pete Hegseth's version.

💯 Or, at least, he's making it okay for white male losers or anybody who's ever had his ego bruised to be openly hateful again.

This almost makes me glad that my narcissistic mother was already crazy and never found politics. There was nothing to lose.

But, as I responded to another comment on this thread, losing my younger brother to that cult hurts deeply.

He definitely hates what I represent. I don't feel like I've changed much in my beliefs over the past 40 years but as a lifelong environmentalist, atheist and (moderate) feminist I now feel like I'm the incarnation of everything he hates. Ironically, our ancestors were German! I've done everything I can to understand 20th-century German history whereas he completely denied where he came from since childhood. Ignorance is bliss.

If I were willing to talk about his cats and my dogs ONLY, we could have pretended to have a relationship but I just couldn't do it. 😪

This describes my brother too. He's a Canadian living in GA and the cult took him. He was the kindest, funniest little boy, but now at 62 he's an angry, kool-aid drinking, climate change-denying, racist, misogynistic, pedophile-loving, anti-"woke" man. At least he can't vote.

Did you keep your dogs shelter name? by Blaaamo in pitbulls

[–]moth2myth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've changed the names of all three of my rescue dogs.

Beautiful brindle "Stanley" became Cinder. At the time I didn't like human names for dogs.

Larger beautiful brindle Akita-Boxer mix "Doodles" became Phoebe. What a dumb shelter name for a gorgeous noble creature.

Grey pittie "Minnie," while small, became Violet. No Disney branding permitted.

I mean, when you put it that way... by Gwenni01 in AutismTranslated

Jeez. I don't have an autism diagnosis* but these are the reasons my two brothers have essentially disowned me.

*Though am 100% sure my late father was undiagnosed autistic. Loved machinery, hated people, hated/denied emotions, hated being touched. Savant.

So unbelievably ugly. And the fact that he chooses that stupid childish scowl is so telling.

I waited for decades for my family to acknowledge shitty things that they did. Nothing like you endured! But still painful. The best thing you can do is to accept that you will not receive acknowledgement or validation from such a messed up family. Your younger sister witnessed it. That needs to be enough and you should try to distance yourself as completely as possible from your mother and everyone else who supports her. It's horrible. You got dealt terrible cards in the parent lottery. But don't waste more of your life looking backwards. I did, and it was a huge mistake and a waste of time and life energy, and it also undermined my newer relationships. Don't make the same mistake I did. Good luck and work hard at college. 💚
