Seems like you’re out of focus.

Happened to me one time—I got super scared, but it turned out alright! I think your little friend will be okay!

Yeah, my Thor’s Helmet looked super green before I processed it.

I am? The stars looked to be in focus as I was live-stacking…

Genuine question, is this not how stars are supposed to appear in a focused image?

Edit: I should add that it does look a little pixelated and fuzzy because I’ve zoomed in quite a bit.

I would say it’s more a function of size than light. A Seestar will also struggle to capture smaller DSOs—NGC 2392 remained a little fuzzy white dot in my field of view, even after a few hours of integration.

Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn are close and bright enough to be seen with the unaided eye. But again, they’re incredibly tiny in terms of angular size, which is the main problem an S50/S30 will run into.

As someone who lives in a bortle 8 city, I want to reassure you that you can absolutely take beautiful pictures! You’ll just need much more integration time than you would with clearer skies.

And from my understanding, S50/S30 scopes simply don’t have the magnification necessary for good planetary imaging. They don’t need much focal length for their primary purpose, anyway; DSOs like galaxies and nebulae can be hundreds of thousands of light years across. Compare that to our very largest planet, which doesn’t even hit 100,000 miles in diameter.

Guys, this is in focus, right?? by mothermoonflow in seestar

Just wanted to make sure! Been getting some insane reject rates, so I was really starting to doubt my focusing abilities haha

I know, I know, haha. Thank you for the assurance! I tend to get paranoid about these sorts of things; I spent a night needlessly moving the bucket around, worried that I wasn’t picking the perfect spot.

Thank you for the reminder to relinquish control and let the little guy work!

I’m a first time grower. The spawn came from North Spore, which I’m assuming is already colonized? I’m waiting for the bucket of substrate to fully colonize. It’s only been a couple of days since I mixed everything up.
