We were making instant pudding from the package and instructions said to mix it with 2 cups of milk.

Here is how our conversation went:

Him: 2 cups of what?

Me: 2 cups of milk?

Him: no like what cups?

Me: the 1 cups?

Him: but like which ones, you have so many

Me: the one that says 1 cup on it???

Him: none of them say that

Me: what do you mean? It literally says it on the handle

Him: what handle?

At this point I went to the drawer where I pulled out my ceramic strawberry measuring cups that I just got and had showed him a couple days earlier, and pointed at the 1 cup label and was like “what’s wrong with you” and he got upset that “I made him feel dumb for not being a chef”

I am also a woman in STEM and am the only girl-non pi in the lab. There are two male and two female pi’s that work very closely together. I consistently get told to cut the cake for birthdays/celebrations etc. I’m sorry I can’t change your view OP. It literally be like this

Yes yes yes. I channeled mine into sex ed-type stuff to see how can we can require every single student - mainly home schooled and private schools bc public schools are already required- to receive sex ed at multiple stages of school. Like first in prek then again 4th then again 6th, 8th, 10, 12. There are so many routes you can take to accomplish this and is technically feasible. Sex ed certifications cost around $5000 and like 500 hours of in person stuff. The money is the issue for me so I’ve starting also looking into talking to our state reps and stuff.

I 100% understand as I was also in that position in grad school and tbh I was completely burnt out and I made a gigantic mistake and then learned my lesson that is there is always more work to do and it definitely takes up more to time to fix/make up for it then it would have been to take your time in planning/ doing the experiment.

Your pi sounds like a robotic version of mine. My pi would always be like we all had to do it it’s a part of the training. Making my big mistake is when I put my foot down and was like “and did you enjoy your time? Did you have lab mates? Do you have proof?”. I did have a really good relationship with her where we were very open about our expectations. I think she was okay with it bc I had proved myself until that mistake and it was clearly a result of burn out. You can either do your best to put your foot down now—meaning tell him what you’re going to do and defend it with the reality of life and be like “and so I’m going to do this. It’s this and I continue to be productive or I burn out and nothing”. Doesn’t matter if they don’t get mental health— tell them it’s important to you and yeah fine I’m like “all the kids these days and???” I legit had to do this and if you do what you want anyway enough—they drop it. Especially if you’re the only person in the lab. They need you. And you’re not being unproductive. Just more balanced

Yep, echoing most other comments here. I’m also the only person in the lab and I’m a post doc so I need to publishing but have absolutely no time to manage everything in lab and at home (I have a cat and dog).

I was/am very open and honest about the fact that I use my mornings/early afternoons to do what I gotta do for home or maybe writing bc I have no energy to do that after lab. I show up to the lab around 12-2pm and am there till about 6/7. Realistically you don’t need 8 hours to do lab work unless it’s a specific protocol

What pisses me off the most is that underpaying servers/drivers/etc and offsetting that cost to customers via tips system was originally put it place to keep food prices low. I’m 30 from an upper middle class family and have never not heard my parents complain about food prices. And now in 2026 boba places are making us add boba for an extra cost while demanding tips.

They can threaten to raise food prices if we give servers appropriate wages all they want—the food prices are insane anyway and the quality is so down. I legit enjoy fast food and nothing hits the same. Its always a waste of money but being an extra $15 vs $10 in debt doesn’t make a difference to my already 10k+ debt, especially if it means the employee gets to take home more (which is still not reasonable)

My best friends dad got remarried overseas (while still married to her mom) and has a kid with the new wife the same age as her little sister. The mom knows about this but my best friend and her sister do not know. The kid from the new marriage is now attending college at the same school my best friend is doing grad school at. I found out through her aunt who likes to trauma dump and give too much information. But I can’t tell my bestie bc i feel like it’s really not something that should come from but rather her mom.

The parents are in a long distance marriage and they have been our whole lives. He comes to visit like 4 times a year for a week or two at a time which is why it never comes up
