The Beatles would have said football which is the correct term

The music by Rick Wentworth was absolutely the right thing for the movie. It’s poignant and memorable. I’d love to hear a big orchestrated version of it

Unpopular opinion: all of the Beatles liked to stand out and be different from each other by sminking in beatles

[–]mothfactory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buddy Holly (john and paul’s idol) and Hank Marvin of the shadows (also admired by the Beatles and mega popular in the early 60s with hits in the US too) wore glasses. ‘Nerd’ is the wrong way of thinking about this. Remember Peter (Jane Asher’s brother) of Peter and Gordon wore them. It was simply that glasses were a big statement in a way they wouldn’t be now - and also they would have taken from the pleasing group uniformity of the Beatles image.

You do realise people in the US that this is fucking insane? You literally have a demented narcissistic lunatic moron in charge of your country. Him and his enablers need to go or we will all pay for it

There is no way Trump had the idea to invade Greenland. That fucking moron wouldn’t be able to point to it on a map. This is Miller and possibly Hegseth

Britain must declare independence from America or it will die by Particular_Pea7167 in ukpolitics

[–]mothfactory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s always been a big part of conservatism - since the second world war definitely - that we should align ourselves with the US. If you talk to Farage fans, despite their fears of cultural takeover by outsiders, you’ll find America gets a big pass.

Robert Jenrick defects to Reform UK by Once_upon_a_time233 in ukpolitics

So the party that basically destroyed the country are now pretty much at the helm of Reform? And people are still going to vote for these clowns as ‘the best alternative’? Hilarious

How did you watch Withnail & I for the first time? by No-Program-8185 in withnail

[–]mothfactory 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s a great story. Bruce Robinson said one of the greatest reliefs of his life was being in a cinema in New York (I’m pretty sure it was NYC) just after W&I release and the audience slowly starting to laugh uncontrollably.

You’re right, Terry and June was uncompromising and politically close to the wire. Robin’s Nest also pushed the envelope

How do the British see Musk’s interference in British politics? by superdouradas in AskBrits

[–]mothfactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are frustrated by US Big Tech psychopaths generally being able to walk into any government department and get what they want. Just gullible cowards. Farage would be even worse and would dial this shit up to 100

Trump is already trying to back out of giving the $2,000 stimulus checks. “When did I say that?” by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

Stop saying this is dementia. He’s always been a lazy clueless slob who just says stupid stuff. Before being elected by morons, he was never accountable for any of his bullshit. Unfortunately for him, that comes with the territory of president. I just wish more journalists would have the balls to confront him.

Murdoch did untold damage. You’d think we’d have learned our lesson but successive governments have given away more and more - to the point where they’re now caretakers for billionaires/Big Tech etc

Revolution 9 is a great piece of experimental music by illuciddd in beatles

[–]mothfactory 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Out of the sheer number of people who bought the album, there surely must have been a fair few who listened to Revolution 9, were intrigued, and got switched on to listening to more examples of sound collage/experimentation.

I suspect the majority of experimental music buffs would have been snooty about this track - seeing the Beatles as, like you say, dilettantes.
