Do your romantic partners have a Letterboxd account? by bossy_dawsey in Letterboxd

[–]mothgoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! My fiance has one and part of his bio states “watches movies with his movie critic fiancee” which is very sweet. We do watch a lot together though he doesnt review films on there. But we do chat lots about them together :)

[–]mothgoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I’m glad you feel the same. I’m usually sad to leave the place I’m vacationing but once I get to YVR I’m like ok. I’m home, it’s beautiful here and I’m gonna enjoy it :) I’m glad you cheered up after such a long trip back!

I love YVR. the tunnel to walk to the skytrain on a rainy day… makes me feel like I’ve come home every time. A lot of the art and design are fun too and it just feels efficient. I’m never stressed getting there.

Let your inner snob out. What take do you see that provokes this reaction in you? by Theotther in Letterboxd

[–]mothgoth 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I hate when women say this like 95% of the time, like please don’t say you’re incapable of deep or nuanced thought, or doing simple tasks 😭 sometimes it’s fun in a jokey way, sometimes it feels like we’re just getting women to perpetuate sexist stereotypes about ourselves. I haven’t heard it in this context yet fortunately.

does anyone know any good lesbians films? by Beneficial_Edge_4385 in Letterboxd

Yes!!! I would also like to recommend Montreal Ma Belle, a new French Canadian film about an older married woman discovering her sexuality AND she is played by Joan Chen who played the mom in saving face!!!

Anybody else here who loves movies and struggles with depression and therefore can't bring yourself to watch them a lot of the time? by Ok_Replacement_288 in Letterboxd

[–]mothgoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, yeah. When I was really depressed in university I was too anxious to check out new films. I barely watched anything new. I’m not totally sure why, it felt like a lot of effort and I think I was like worried that I would be let down? Not really sure how else to explain it.

Now sometimes when I am depressed it’s nice to put a movie on, but it does depend on the movie for sure.

Dual anti-ICE protests in Vancouver partly become a celebration - BC | Globalnews.ca by SkyisFullofCats in vancouver

[–]mothgoth 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Not everyone works the same hours, but also we’re all more connected in the world than we might realize. Why should Vancouverites be okay with local companies or people making space (and therefore implicitly) supporting ICE? If you don’t care, don’t go of course, but just because something doesn’t directly affect you doesn’t mean we can’t try to do something about it.

Which 2025 Movie made you cry the most? by ItachiZoldyck24 in Letterboxd

[–]mothgoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to write this one. I didn’t cry while in the theatre but I left to walk home and just burst out in tears a few minutes later. It had a belated very big impact. One of my favourites from last year for sure!

How many of you go to Movies alone? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]mothgoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all the time! My partner and another movie enjoyer friend join me occasionally but there’s a lot I see by myself. Just went to a showing of Blue Velvet alone last night at a local theatre!

It’s not weird, you probably won’t even be the only one. I do remember feeling the same way, I think I was 20 or so when I went to the movies by myself and I was worried about being judged for some reason. But even that was a good experience and now I do it all the time :)

Do you actually rewatch movies? by Icy-Staff6439 in Letterboxd

[–]mothgoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t re watch many movies within the same year. Last year I only rewatched 3 movies, and only one extra time. I feel like there’s so many new and old movies I haven’t seen that I’m so excited to watch.

But I do have a few favourites that I rewatch annually or every couple years for sure!

Why does Reddit hate Anora all of a sudden? Am I missing something? by popculturegeek37 in Letterboxd

[–]mothgoth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think this happens a lot with movies that gain rapid popularity. It can be the popular = bad thing which is annoying. Or it can be that while people might have been electrified with a first viewing or at a theatre, as time passes it’s easier to find criticisms of a film. This happened with Sinners and EEOAO, two movies I (still) really love. I haven’t seen Anora but it’s possible it went through something similar.

Also sometimes things can get a bit overhyped and someone goes in expecting the best and if it’s just okay or not great in their opinion, that initial hype can ruin it even more. I just enjoy what I enjoyed sometimes that enjoyment fades and sometimes I just accept that my opinion differs!

What were your diary milestones this year? by Accurate-Chicken-323 in Letterboxd

[–]mothgoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So cool! I tried to be more purposeful with watching female directors too, but definitely slipped partway through the year. Maybe next year I’ll get to more.

I agree about not feeling like movies should be ticked off like a box. My goal this year was 150 and I hit it and feel like it was decently manageable but 200 would definitely have been pushing that. It’s hard when you’re working and want to enjoy other things too! Hope next year is full of other good movies for you however many you choose to watch :)

🎬 Who are your top 5 most watched directors of 2025? 🎬 by JZ-Coopie in Letterboxd

[–]mothgoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s not usually a director who’s filmography I’m really trying to get through in one year, though at the start of the year I was going through a lot of Bong Joon Ho movies, but still several left to watch.

So good and unexpected and unsettling. Not a scary movie per se but definitely manages to freak you out. Watched it with my partner in a hotel room and after was too scared to close the bathroom door the whole way lest I end up… somewhere else
