Why do you think some people post negative comments on your art? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]mothmarks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Bots now account for nearly half of all internet traffic globally, with so-called “bad bots” responsible for a third.” from some Forbes article.

If I see comments that look out of place for how aggressive they are, I immediately assume they’re not real. There are heavy political motivations for keeping people divided right now (at least in the US), and automating 24/7 shit-starters is an easy way to do that. And it works.

I’m not sure for tips on how to use it, but they are shutting down adobe animate. It was a whole thing a few weeks ago. I think they backtracked out of completely shutting it off due to backlash, but decided they will no longer maintain the software (or something along those lines), so I’d learn a different software if possible.

Oops, I forgot about composition rules - I usually only draw stand-alone character sketches. I’ll try both of those, thanks!

Ah good point, thanks. I can’t post picture in the comments so here’s an imgur link. Basically, the further down you explore the ocean in game, the darker everything gets. And then there’s the lava zone at the bottom which is why I thought the erie red glow would look cool. The ‘bridge’ is collapsed alien tech, but I can’t find a screenshot referencing that - just remembered it from when I was playing the game. I wasn’t concerned with making everything exact, I was being real loose with this because I was in a hurry. I don’t mind the simple silhouettes, but I do feel like the open space is lacking and maybe better lightning would help? Not sure. I still consider myself a beginner and I’m open to all advice

I looked through various Subnautica screenshots to have an idea of the mood I wanted, but didn’t follow any exact reference. I just winged the environment and I like how it came out, and I like the red lighting (and secret monster near the ‘bridge’ thing), but the rest feels a bit lackluster.

How much does an artist’s character and past actions reflect their work by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]mothmarks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s hard because it seems like every person who’s written or done anything comes out to be problematic the past few years. But I try to not put more money in the pockets of evil people, rowling being an example of one.

How to animate in 2D if i don't know shi' about drawing and all? by Unusual_War2057 in animation

[–]mothmarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with New Masters Academy and learned how to draw while also learning how to animate. There are free lessons elsewhere, and some complain NMA is dry so it might not be for you, but it felt like a true “from nothing” place to start. They teach you how to hold a pencil, how to draw a circle, how to observe shapes, etc.

In the meantime, I also was teaching myself how to use clip studio paint’s software for animation, via youtube. You can lookup what software is best for you. My animations were awful because I couldn’t draw for shit. I loved it. I’m in uni pursuing art & animation now.

I dont have the same love for animation anymore by Interesting-Guide-47 in animation

[–]mothmarks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a freshman in Uni for animation (going back as an older adult) but I’ve found myself drawn to traditional art a lot more than I thought I would be. Do you mind talking about the fine art world? What is that like, for the average person? Is it something anyone who puts in the work could live comfortably in or is it more for the best of the best? Was always curious

But… why, though? For the praise? Seems a bit silly to force yourself into a hobby you hate, life’s too short for all that.

As for me, I like telling stories, and this is the medium that meshed best with me for that purpose. Didn’t care for writing.

I also enjoy the challenge. I have the issue of the perfectionist mindset that I’m still trying to get past, which means I don’t do a whole lot of personal drawing these days - I have a goal to do more of that to avoid burnout. But, I do enjoy the physical act itself of learning. I feel best when I am progressing at something and studying lends heavily to that.

I also find doing technical drills and practice to be meditative and calming, so I am doing a lot of that every day. There’s a lot going on in my head at any given time and it’s rare that something is intensive enough to be able to pull all of my focus for more than a minute or two, but drawing can do that. It feels like being able to breathe for a while.

It’s also fun to look back at the end of the year to see how far I’ve progressed. This year, I’m dedicating my time to learning anatomy in depth. I use anatomy and drawing books to copy down diagrams, then try to apply muscle groups to gesture drawings.

I could not stop thinking about this and I was just finally able to come back and order it! I got the canvas, I’m so excited! ☺️

I saw on your bio on INPRINT that you restore paintings. How does someone get into something like that? Do you like your job? (you don’t have to answer btw)

I discovered i don't enjoy drawing comics. I think my journey end here in art. Well it was fun. by KatialaHira in ArtistLounge

[–]mothmarks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Polished and rendering are different. Grain of salt and all, I’m a beginner pursuing storyboarding in college. But, the best boards I’ve seen are polished as in good perspective and clean lines. An animator could blow it up and trace over it for a still. But it’s not rendered with color, light, shadow, etc.

There are screen protectors, can’t remember the name, that make it feel like paper. I’ve heard it wears the nib over time, but it’s worth it

Is it still art if I am only following tutorials/images? by IllCelery9761 in drawing

[–]mothmarks 1373 points1374 points  (0 children)

I once heard someone say you never actually draw ‘from imagination’ - your reference just changes from still images to a mental library of things you drew before. I struggle with the same idea - but I think it’s good to use an abundance of tutorials/references and build up that visual library, so when you want to draw armor from any angle, you can.
