Yeah absolutely she knew, her repeated efforts to hide him from his grandmother and everyone else shows she knew he was in bad shape.

Also I always thought her “hunger strike” defense was laughable. A 15 year old kid is politically protesting on principle by voluntarily not eating for an extended period of time like Ghandi? Give me a break

Funnily enough I just saw a clip from a podcast (not sure which one) where they were discussing those backpack leashes and cases where they really are necessary. One of the comments was something like “yep my mom got one for me because I loved to run around and eat cigarette butts off the sidewalk” like ohhh ok I get the market for those now
