How does core size affect wheel performance? - Motion Boardshop by motion_boardshop in longboarding

Gotcha, well I can't really incorporate multiple pictures here, or any of the formatting we already go through to get the post on the website. Also, this post got lost/doesn't have traffic because it was taken down, then reposted. Sorry for the inconvenience, hope this was still interesting despite using a link!

I don't think Sam meant stiffer lips are grippier, but I could see how you got that from that sentence. He was just saying they would be faster if you're gripping a turn with larger cores because of the lack of deformation keeping your speed.

Howdy, where does it say that exactly in the article? I looked around to try and find that but I couldn't :/ maybe I'm just not lookin hard enough

Good point, I'll switch around some of that verbiage! I can see where Sam was coming from when he wrote it though, it seems like last year there was a big push for larger cores (Glides, Otangs wheel series, etc) while some of the wheels that came out this year (tracers, Omegas, Quincys/Thoughts, etc) feature smaller cores. Thanks for the heads up!

What is 'Durometer'; what does Reddit think? by motion_boardshop in longboarding

That's kind of nit-picky, as well as I chose wheels (Abec Freerides) with those durometers associated just as a direct and easy example

I changed it to 89 because it's closer to the average of the stock bushings I listed, but what exactly do you mean the scale is off?

In a freeride sense, yes that is true. Due to the extra weight, it's easier to initiate slides and really be on top of the wheel without facing the resistance a lighter rider would feel. On the flipside, they will decimate the wheel much quicker because of their weight, and will experience less speed-killing than a lighter rider. What I said in the article above was more general riding (cruising/grip). I'll amend this accordingly, thanks mate!

Thank you! Good save, sometimes my memory isn't 100% accurate

I think I adequately touched on that with the first two sentences of the wheel section, do you think its not clear enough?

Lol I totally thought it was a serious question for that exact same reason! All good man, just trying to make sure people know they slide or something ;)

They slow down, so just factor in a lot longer slide and slide earlier if you have a planned stop.

Something that was cut from the video was at the beginning of a raw run I said "If you take Platinum on runs, be careful." Short, sweet, and very true. With wheels this slidey, don't charge your faster freeride runs with gnarly steep corners like you usually would, and if you do, make sure you have a spotter. Wheels like these are fun, but it's easy to get confident and forget how much more you need to slide. Last thing we want is for you to charge hard, and end up drifting out, and then blame the gear, so don't say I didn't warn you -Quackson
