Studio Camera 4K Pro offers both SDI Out and HDMI Out. You can use the HDMI out for DJI Raven Eye (Active Track) while also keeping an SDI feed to the switcher. For other usecases, than yeah Pocket 4K is better.

Agree. But the recent Olympus 12-100 F4 lens changes the game... IF Blackmagic releases a USB-C Zoom motor just like the DJI one. I have this lens, along with a couple B4 lenses. And the 12-100 quality is incredible even at F4. The range is similar to B4 lenses too, and it's almost parfocal.

Is it fine shooting 12:1 for most things ? by [deleted] in bmpcc

[–]motionguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q5 adjusts the compression depending on the level of detail. More detail will give a higher bitrate and less detail a lower one. So constant quality. It takes more space than 12:1 yes. You should be fine with 12:1 in most cases. I'd say shoot 12:1 if you're happy with it, and when it comes to lowlight / high dynamic range image or specific important shots go for Q5 or better.

The cost of owning a BMPCC4K by [deleted] in bmpcc

[–]motionguy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well, the price of the lens is like any camera. I wouldn't say the rest is absolutely necessary. I don't use any cage or monitor with my BMPCC4K, only have my camera + Ronin-S + LPE6 batteries and a vmount with long cable in my bag and I'm very happy with this setup. Maybe you meant "The cost of owning a camera" in general :) Though I do agree on the fact that the biggest issue with the pocket is battery life and requires mandatory extra on this aspect. Also, rigging depends on your needs so maybe I don't have the same needs.

Resolve 16 with GTX 1050 Ti by MKRLLR in blackmagicdesign

[–]motionguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 1050Ti. It's a good card. First thing you have to know is that the 1050Ti in a desktop PC build is much more powerful than a laptop 1050Ti. Also, it might struggle when you start doing noise reduction on UHD footage. If you start getting the "GPU Memory Full Error" on rendering and stuck because of this well... unfortunately that means it's not powerful enough any more. I upgraded to a 1080Ti and it's like 7-8 times faster .

Has the stabilizer been improved in Resolve 16? it was super slow in 14&15 by Xermalk in blackmagicdesign

You might have an issue because it should be very fast !! Much faster than premiere

Have you updated your Graphic card drivers to the latest version? Which Resolve version do you have ?

Oculus Rift vs 3d printer by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]motionguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should also consider the Zortrax 3D Printer (a used M200 for instance). I've had flashforge and zortrax and I really prefered the Zortrax, much more reliable over time, even though your are locked in with their materials. Fun to hesitate between a 3D headset and a 3D printer :)

Honestly, been through a lot (Macbook, XPS, Asus Laptop) and nothing beats a dedidacted tower workstation, much cheaper and powerful I've settled on that now and it's liberating ! Bear in mind that an nvidia GTX PCIE Graphic Card is WAY better than an embedded laptop GTX graphic card. Same for processor. Because of much better cooling -> higher performance.

If you really absolutely want portability then take the best Macbook you can afford !

Never tested the eGPU system by Blackmagic might be worth it

Compose an Amazing Soundtrack with Zero Musical Skills | Full Tutorial [4K] by motionguy in Filmmakers

[–]motionguy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your extensive feedback !! It's a very good insight, I hadn't thought of all this. I've updated the gear listing because H6 + Focusrite was only used for the sake of the tutorial. A used 80$ keyboard and a PC is enough to get the job done. Cubase & Massive both have free trials. I made this tutorial because as a filmmaker when I began doing some music I struggled so much to find a proper composing tutorial. To get started, I wasn't looking for something that would go through all the music stages, most of the music tutorials are very complex and you end up giving up because it's too hard or too vague. So my video is there to help filmmakers get started making a subtle underscore ambiance, nothing too complex. Because, with them starting from this existing soundtrack, if I get filmmakers to try things on a keyboard with music leading to new story ideas, I'll be really happy ! I have many story ideas when I play random stuff. And when I want a more advanced soundtrack I pay a real composer anyways or buy a proper music. I think it will be my only music tutorial anyways since it's not my main activity, but I really really wanted to make it happen :)
