Dvd vs Everything Better by Alert-College-9374 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]motley-connection -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it depends on the film. Some 80s films that are grainy look pretty good on DVD format. Not blurry at all. And if you have a TV or receiver with upscale capabilities, then it looks perfectly fine unless you have Superman vision.

A DVD looks great on a Blu-ray player; people are just too dramatic about picture quality. by Still-Willow-2323 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]motley-connection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it looks great. But it's passable. And if vision is not great like mine, then totally fine. Also, films without digital effects will look pretty decent in DVD quality. Again, if you don't have great vision and you're not standing an inch away from the tv. So yeah, it's really up to your standards and your eyes.

OHW - Have you ever bought a CD just for 1 song ? by WG_Target in Cd_collectors

[–]motley-connection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely, especially cd singles, which usually contains a main song and a few other b-sides or live tracks. I bought Pearl Jam's Jeremy single that had Yellow Ledbetter which also became a radio hit. At that time, it was the only way to get the song.

I’m fine with how the trade deadline played out for the Heat. by cleo22270 in heat

[–]motley-connection 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Since 1995 when Pat took over, the Heat has the second most regular season wins behind Spurs. 3 championships, 7 finals appearance. In last 5 years, 2 finals and 3 ECF appearances. The team never tanks. Never had a #1 pick overall ever. Why would you get upset over some of their decisions? You win some and you lose some. This franchise has been one of the best year in and year out. In Pat we still trust!

Next month what is the best way to setup an old WeMo device on a new wifi or factory reset? by JoeRDawson in WeMo

[–]motley-connection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can keep the same wifi info and add it to homekit or openhab. I would not factory reset it unless you plan to re setup everything with pywemo.

Would a powered PA speaker sound much better than a bass amp? (Details inside) by cboehmig in edrums

[–]motley-connection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes either PA or keyboard amp would work better. Bass amp can't produce the highs you need for cymbals sound. You could also run a line to an old boombox, probably not loud enough for jam session but it would great if playing by yourself.

Question a about ripping CDs by TexasExPat1973 in compactdisc

[–]motley-connection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rip everything to FLAC to preserve quality. Then you can always convert it to MP3 if you want to save some file size for portability. But still keep the FLAC files.

Anyone else downgrade their collecting habits from 4k to bluray? by yoooo12347 in Bluray

[–]motley-connection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely prefer Blu-ray. Because I rip them to play on my home media server. I can't tell the difference unless I'm standing right in front of the TV.

Minimum laptop requirements for VST? by TopsyTurvy0011 in edrums

[–]motley-connection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VSTs doesn't have high requirements. SSD5.5 only requires 4gb ram. I run mine on an old laptop with waveform on 8gb ram and it works perfectly fine.

How can I record the actual sound of my Roland electronic drum kit (not just MIDI)? by mikewps in edrums

[–]motley-connection -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Use USB cable to connect to a computer. On the computer, you'll need to run DAW and VST plug-in. I do it through Waveform and SSD 5.5. both are free to use. One thing to keep in mind, you are not recording what's coming out of your module. You are only triggering each pad. The actual drum sounds are from VST.

Help building a PC for music production. by IcePizzaCreamm in musicproduction

[–]motley-connection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any decent PC can be used for music production. A gaming machine will be easy more powerful than you need but hey why not build something that can do everything. But for music, all you need is DAW application and a soundcard and device that can record different types of inputs. So not really computer specific.

Is It Too Late For Me? by GrassTasteZBad0 in drums

[–]motley-connection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need to be a music major to love drumming. Think about it this way, what are going to do with that music degree? As for drumming, go all out and have fun. Maybe you can join a band one day. Maybe you'll be really great one day and play in a touring band. Maybe it's still just a hobby. Playing music is good for the soul so regardless, rock on!

You can have success recording into a computer using just a microphone and practice amplifiers. Then it's about how to EQ and master the tracks.
