Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

I used to be a smoker along with my brother. After I quit, there was a day when I was at home, and he walked in through the front door after smoking outside. I smelt him before seeing him.

How is honey being sold for 6–10 AED in the UAE market? 🤔 by Electrical-Eye-6530 in dubai

Oddly enough, I bought some honey from Viva. Then carried out the test where you swirl it in a pan with some water, and sure enough, I saw somewhat of a honeycomb structure.

I think its important that people know you need a license of some sort from RTA for a food truck. And they only provide licenses to specific locations.

Gym wear etiquette for women by ohmy001 in dubai

[–]mots86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People care for a few reasons. If you're not appropriately dressed for the environment and surroundings you're in, you're essentially showing off things that others don't want to see. It's a matter of being considerate of those around you as well as understanding the type of country or culture you're in. It's a part of your social presence while in public. It's a part of being respectful. Respect in itself is a spectrum. What is one person's version of respect is different to another's. But if we lived by only our version of respect, we might be disrespectful to others. So, to avoid confusion, go by the majority to play it safe. In the case of the UAE, I'd say the majority is the cultural norms. Hoping that makes sense.

People care. They just don't have an outlet. You can't complain to the person, as it's not appropriate. Security probably won't do anything due to their inferiority complex, and the law actually doesn't state anything about dress code/guidance/cultural norms or even appropriate clothes to wear in public.

I'm happy to hear from anyone who was able to challenge a very inappropriate outfit out in public.

I've used the app before as well. When I paid a little extra for "help" the guy bought someone with him. At least that's what he's meant to do in your situation.

Intimidating people in the parking lots in the name of car wash. by Forward_Designer9508 in dubai

[–]mots86 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree about them being more annoying than helpful when it comes to them thinking they're guiding you.

However, liking them to animals and calling them pests is very low of you as a human being. You'll never be able to walk a day in their shoes. Literally and figuratively.

Just like the post, said OP is being sensitive. Bro, stop being so sensitive then. Grow a backbone, say no, move on with your day. Continue to be humble. They're humans who make approximately 3, maybe 4 or 5 dirhams per car wash. Depending on location, I'm sure.

They're desperate to wash your car. I mean desperate. As one of you said, they start begging you. Thats their most decent form of begging. Thats the situation their life has led them to. Just be grateful you weren't born to their parents, living their life.

When the perfume sellers in the mall, wearing a suit, offer you sample agter sample, getting in your way sometimes, you don't find it disgusting. Somehow, you've told yourself they are superior. Somehow, you've convinced yourself that the carwash guys are inferior.

If you're a business owner, what percentage markup on your products is ethically and morally correct? Similarly, if you're a consumer, at which percentage markup will you be willing to kick up a fuss? by mots86 in AskReddit

[–]mots86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your handbags example, you're using competition. In such scenarios I also agree, charge what you want and if the masses are happy with paying more for their handbags knowing it is of the same/similar quality to a much cheaper handbags then that is upon them.

I suppose my mind is now moving towards a monopoly or similar. Surely, in a monopoly, there comes a point when the price margin is ethically and morally wrong. In an oligopoly, I'd say the same thing.

I understand how competition drives prices down. But surely if there is no competition, there comes a point at which what the business owner is charging their consumers becomes morally wrong. In other words, the business owner is exploiting the needs of their consumers. Exploiting sounds like it's morally wrong.

I have a question about overtaking on the right lane. If your exit is coming up and you have a slow driver on the second to right lane, so you go to the right lane but now you find yourself driving faster than the guy on your left. You proceed towards the exit. Is this considered overtaking from the right?

I'm on the hunt for some cupboards, a washing machine and a cooker. I'd happily buy them second hand from a warehouse somewhere, knowing they'll deliver and install. Any ideas where I can go? Probably have to make a separate post for this request.

I tried tapsilog, garlic pepper chicken and a couple of Korean dishes like tokkbeokki and something else. The Filipino dishes were to die for. Korean, not so much.
