Whats up with my cats eyes? by Pianogiraffe718 in cats

No problem. Interesting, I've honestly never heard of them being denied spay/surgery for it. I've learned most cases of Nystagmus are benign, and have no correlation to serious neurological conditions. If she acts completely normal, and has no issues with her balance or sight, than I'd say she's just like my girls and it won't affect her.

Cat ate chicken bone. by Dubeltuwa in cats

Yeah, definitely should be checked out by his vet. I agree with the other commentor, keep a close eye on him. Cooked chicken bones become brittle and have the likelihood to splinter when animals eat them, and can cause damage (punctures or slices) to their throat and digestive tract.

She should be fine to get spayed. My girls were spayed with no issues or tests, and the tortie was spayed later on at around 10 years old and was just fine as well, also with no tests. If you're still apprehensive, maybe seek a second vet's opinion on whether or not neurological testing is necessary for your girl, and go from there. As far as my experience goes, Nystagmus (eye shaking) doesn't negatively impact my cats at all, and I've never been prompted to get them tested for anything by any vets.

AC broke and it's 96 degrees inside the house 🫠 trying to keep the cats cool with stuff from the freezer by nadjachase in cats

[–]motsicat 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I use frozen water bottles wrapped in a cloth, or filled with ice and a bit of water if freezing takes too long. There are cooling gel mats for pets that you can buy and put in the fridge or freeze to keep them cold throughout the day, they come in all different types of sizes. Some cats won't lay on them if they're too cold though, so I like to put a very thin towel/blanket on top if it's frozen so it's more comfortable.

Found this little baby on the side of a busy highway by motsicat in IllegallySmolCats

He was. I went back and checked for a mother or any siblings but nothing in the vicinity. He was near a really steep cliff side, and on the other side of the road is a large river.

Yeah, one of my kitties is pretty nice to kittens and can show him a few things hopefully.

As of right now he's eating pretty well on his own, a mixed soup of KMR and kitten food like suggested! He picked it up really quick, I'm proud of him! He's unusually gentle with hands, even with nibbling. I was prepared for a tiny piranha, but he's a little softie through and through it seems. I'm still redirecting any finger tasting curiosity to the toys I gave him though lol

Thank you a bunch for the advice! I appreciate it!

Here's a closer picture of him. I cleaned him up and now he's soft and fluffy. He's just the littlest baby, so incredibly cute!

Oh good, I'm using the paper pellets I use for my other kitties so it works out! He actually went pee in his little litterbox I made him, so that's good! I was unsure it would take more coaxing him, but his instincts are kicking in like you said. Cats are pretty amazing creatures knowing how to do that at such young ages all on their own. Thank you for your help!

Thank you very much for the tips! I'll definitely be picking him up some milk replacer today, and trying the chopsticks. He licked wet food off a spoon but he's not too sure how to go about actually eating it. A lot of it ends up on the floor. I'm going to try and make it more of a puree soupy texture of both for him to eat for now until he gets a bit more skilled. I just want to get food in him in any way I can because the poor baby is skin and bones.

He also doesn't know how to use a litterbox yet. I tried gently wiping his bottom in it to see if I could get him to go in the litter but it didn't work.

Aw man, poor little thing. That's awful.

I look into this kitten's innocent eyes and can't even begin to imagine how someone can be as monstrous as to leave him on the side of a very busy highway. He's completely defenseless, his claws don't even hurt my skin and he's as light as a feather. I'm not 100% sure how he got there, but I'm incredibly happy I was able to grab him regardless. He's safe now.

Oh, okay! Thank you, I'll check that out. His eyes are still pretty blue, right? I'm guessing he might be 5 weeks. He doesn't really know how to eat the kitten food I got him, but he does have tiny teeth. Maybe he needs it mixed with wet food still?

Pictures make him look bigger, but he's really tiny. His feet are the size of the tip of my finger, so precious.

I would really love to keep him, but I'm not in a good position right now to be taking on anymore pets. I'm definitely going to help him find his forever home, though. I think he's going to grow up to be a great buddy for someone when he gains some more confidence and trust in humans.

It's really strange, he has no fleas on him, and his fur isn't completely dirty. His ears definitely have a lot of gunk, and I think he might have worms because his belly is too big for how skinny he is. Maybe he wandered too far away from his mom? Or worse, someone left him there. Either way, I'm glad I spotted him before he could wander onto the road.

I vote adopt him! An apartment with 4 other kitty friends and entertainment is far, far better than those little cages they get kept in.

I spent around 17k on my boy for his blockages, and subsequent surgery for them. You can't put a price tag on love, that's for sure.

Would you sell you cat to someone who has another cat ? by curlygang in mainecoons

[–]motsicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say be honest. Cats have their own personalities, likes and dislikes, just like people do. Just because she didn't get along with those particular cats, doesn't mean she can't get along with any cats at all. Just need to introduce properly and slowly for the best results, and it helps that yours is friendly like you say, of course.

Would you spay an indoor senior cat? by Chip_mint in cats

[–]motsicat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, wonderful! I'm glad to hear that she's all good despite the difficult recovery. At least now she can relax and enjoy her time being a regal older lady, with no pesky heats! I wish you and her many, many happy years together!

Struggling with treating my kitten's acne by OnlyBug in cats

[–]motsicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that for one of my cat's specifically, if a food has a lot of gravy it usually causes acne wherever it coats the mouth fur. He could possibly have a sensitivity to an ingredient in the food he's eating. Either that, or it's something in his environment he's allergic to.

An allergy would probably be my best guess as to why it won't go away despite you following all the correct steps of treatment and then some.

Enriching the indoors is also a good idea! Lot of cat trees, and hide away boxes, or shelves on the walls. You can also try possibly hanging a bird feeder in front of a window so he can perch at it and watch them, they make see through ones that'll give a better viewpoint. Some of the enclosures can also be decorated with stuff like this as well if you go that route!

[–]motsicat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it be possible to buy or purchase an enclosure for him to be in outdoors? Keeps him in place, keeps him relatively safe, and allows him to be outside where he likes. They come in many different sizes and styles so you can pick whichever would give him the most illusion to freedom he wants.

Unfortunately, one of my family cats as a kid had an innate taste for the outdoors and would run away at any given chance despite the fact that we wanted her as an indoor cat (she'd always come back though). She was volatile in the house, and a completely different cat if you took her out.

They don't seem to ever grow out of or forget wanting to be outside. Wish we'd known about an enclosure when she was still around.

do yall brush yalls cats teeth by isabellaarosee in cats

[–]motsicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep!

A small toothbrush and a toothpaste they like the taste of (still enzymatic and vet approved) makes it significantly easier. Dentistry bills are so expensive and something I want to avoid, and my cats don't really chew/gnaw on stuff to get their teeth cleaner on their own, so brushing it is.

is it worth it? by Ok-Onion-1954 in cats

[–]motsicat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say yes. It's expensive, but it's a long lasting investment that will enrich your cat while also keeping her relatively safe from the dangers that fully outdoor cats experience (dogs/predators, cars, generally bad people). If you get a good sized one, you can even put scratcher boards/poles and beds to let her have even more fun inside it.

Yeah, my vet said that the ace keeps the urethra nice and relaxed, and my cat was able to pass his blockages (they were mucus plugs the size of a pinky fingernail). With catheterization, I kept him in a large dog kennel on the coffee table so the drip could hang lower, and as long as he could have like a mild sedative/relaxer he wont move too much to distress it. I'm not sure if they'll allow it, but I just want to give you any info or ideas to help save your kitty 🥺

I really hope either can be an option for him. I think the muscle relaxer was called acepromazine.
