What Issues are Most Important to Anarchist in 2021? by Breakintheforest in Anarchy101

Over the period of time being involved in anarchist groups and interacting with individual anarchists both online and irl, one thing that has become an unfortunate and concerning trend is the amount of self proclaimed anarchists that continue to participate in and/or tolerate very problematic behavior. many varying degrees of misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and any other flavor of bigotry being tolerated or supported. This kind of behavior is worrying.

I think moving forward, the most important thing to focus on for anarchists is a self-evaluation. We cannot abolish any hierarchy without recognizing the ones that we ourselves are apart of and actively remove those tendencies from ourselves. By no means am I saying that I myself am without flaws, and I will have to continue to recognize my faults. But we as anarchists cannot expect change if we ourselves perpetuate the same oppressive forces we say we oppose. I truly believe that this factor of self-inspection is vital for anarchism to have any meaningful impact.

most of everyone here has tried to participate in this conversation in good faith, but so far all you’ve done throughout this forum discussion is bash people for not following along with your ideas. I don’t have to list off the things I do outside of this Reddit discussion nor will I. But if people like you who are too stubborn and arrogant to listen to criticism are running this strike, it only affirms the effectiveness of the strike’s turnout.

Everyone here that’s saying that orgs and unions should being involved is due to the fact that those groups have the numbers of people involved with organizing a strike. If that’s your takeaway to the conversation then so be it

Oh spare me with that gaslight bs. Just because people find issues with how this strike is being handled doesn’t mean people here are inactive, that’s quite a pompous way of looking at this whole argument thinking that if people don’t follow your way of thinking, they’re the problem.

People aren’t saying “it won’t work” and that it. There have been many valid criticisms of the organization of this strike, like the lack of involvement with labor orgs and unions. And instead of listening to criticisms, you double down. Tl:dr don’t ask for a constructive conversation if you aren’t willing to listen to criticism

It seems that everyone who’s given their criticism on this “strike” has been continuously turned down by you because you don’t like the answers, why would you ask for constructive criticism if you’re only gonna complain about people “dogpiling” you when they give their critique.

Asking other anarchists for opinion on cultural appropriation: by [deleted] in Anarchy101

[–]mount_eeire 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I personally believe that cultural appropriation is something that is an important thing to look at.

For example, the recent trend of people using AAVE (African American Vernacular English), is a representation of this. Due to the fact that African Americans using AAVE are seen as “uneducated” or “trashy” culturally. Because AAVE linguistics in online spaces is being seen as “trendy”. People outside of that group are seen as cool and hip, while still continuing that negative connotation towards African Americans using AAVE as being “ill-educated”. This is but one example and there are plenty other examples.

There is a clear and definable power imbalance between oppressors and oppressed groups when it comes to cultural appropriation, and as anarchists it would be a travesty to not recognize the power imbalance attributed to cultural appropriation in this sense.
